Carter Bjerke Carter Bjerke 6'9" | C Wayzata | 2022 State MN of D1 Minnesota 16u (6’8, Wayzata, 2022, PF). We spent the spring talking about Carter being one of the best shooters in the state of Minnesota and this weekend Carter was able to prove it. Carter has the size and skill that you want to have touching the ball in the post, his skill and strength can lead to so much value inside. But that stroke at the arc ranks with the elite in Minnesota and teams love threes dropping through the net. Carter did that all weekend for D1.
Jake Braaten of Minnesota Rise (6’1, Byron, 2021, PG). Carter’s coaches and his teammates love him. In fact it’s been a long time since I have heard multiple – high school and 17u – talk so highly about how much they trust and value a player. He led the team in assists and scoring this weekend as the skill and feel is there but his number one concern is always following the instructions of the coach. He is a true extension of the coach o the floor.
Delwyn Holthusen Delwyn Holthusen 6'6" | PF Red Lake | 2021 State MN of Minnesota Select Robinson (6’6, Red Lake, 2021, PF). Delwyn is a player that I’m aware averaged some massive numbers this winter, somewhere between 25 and 19 points a game and about 15 boards a contest. But he was listed at 6-foot-4 and 6-foot-3. This weekend he showed up at a very legit, and strong 6-foot-6. Delwyn’s position and battle on the block when I watched them play has me thinking he is going to have a massive Class A senior season.
Jay Jurgens of South Dakota Attack *6’8, Brandon Valley, 2021, PF/C). In watching Brandon Valley play on video I didn’t see a lot of Jay play, This weekend I saw a lot of Jay Jurgens as he scored 13 points cutting to the rim and scoring with bouncing athletes contesting everything. More agile than I expected him to be, he was very good at moving his feet and forcing every Pulley post touch to result in an Attack positive. Most of Jay’s basket’s were intelligent movement within the structure moving to scoring space and taking on contact with a touched in score. Seems to have a great understanding of how to move within a halfcourt offense.
Broden Lien Broden Lien 6'8" | PF ISA | 2021 MN of D1 Minnesota (6’8, International Sports Academy, 2021, PF). When D1 Minnesota plays, college coaches were watching. They had the video on live watching the full game, and they grabbed their second views of videos posted on social media. What they saw was an aggressive Broden Lien Broden Lien 6'8" | PF ISA | 2021 MN scoring at the rim, and from the arc. Let’s get this straight, Broden Lien Broden Lien 6'8" | PF ISA | 2021 MN is not a glue guy. This is a hustler and skilled four man in the way of Dusty Rychart, the former Gopher from Grand Rapids, Minnesota. His scoring feel is high level and Wyoming offered right after the event. Lien had four triples against one team, and then his low post agility grabbed attention. Throw in some power forward handles and you have a player that I think can be a strong scorer at a mid and an early big producer at a low major.
Hayden Muirhead of South Dakota Network (6’6, SF O’Gorman, 2021, PF). When a referee that has seen all the top talent walks over from a timeout to say “who is this kid and is he going to take it easy on these rims”, you know you have something. Hayden Muirhead went baseline to dunk on Minnesota Rise three times and exploded on the rim like he was trying to out-dunk Shawn Kemp. This kid has explosive hops that can be turned into a very nice prospect. A way better prospect than PHD has him listed at right now. He collected 11 rebounds in a big win over the Rise plus scored 13. We greatly look forward to seeing what Hayden can do the rest of the summer.
Andrew Morgan Andrew Morgan 6'9" | C Waseca | 2021 State #178 Nation MN of Minnesota Heat Tauer (6’9, Waseca, 2021, PF). Andrew Morgan Andrew Morgan 6'9" | C Waseca | 2021 State #178 Nation MN is your number one stock raiser of the weekend and it isn’t close. His assertiveness was a great thing to see and playing like this Andrew is surely a top 150 player in the nation. Let me say that again. If Andrew Morgan Andrew Morgan 6'9" | C Waseca | 2021 State #178 Nation MN shoots at the arc like he did this weekend, if he attacks the basket like he was to finish, and if Andrew contests and blocks shots like he did this weekend, this is a double figure high major offer player. Many schools need 6-foot-9, strong, agile producing bigs. That’s Andrew. Morgan scored seven times and hammered All Iowa Attack before taking an early seat on the bench and he put up 18 points and 12 boards against division one bigs from Team Factory (including a late game clinching triple).
Brayden Phipps of South Dakota Network (6’5, Harrisburg, 2021, PF). I loved the way Brayden Phipps played in the win over the Rise. He set the game winning screen for the Rise and he carried the team offensively for a long period of time. His physical shoulder turns and powerful drop step finishes led to 23 points on just 7 of 9 shooting! Makes free throws, rebounding physically, and loves to grind in the post on both ends. He is about to have a big year at Harrisburg and like Hayden before him, Phipps is ranked far too low at PHD.
Caleb Siwek Caleb Siwek 6'1" | SG Rosemount | 2022 State MN of Howard Pulley (6’2, Rosemount, 2022, SG). In case you haven’t seen the onslaught of twitter love for Caleb Siwek Caleb Siwek 6'1" | SG Rosemount | 2022 State MN – the dude may have been trending in Minnesota, it’s possible, the videos are everywhere – just know that this kid has a stroke. And we need to dig a bit deeper than just saying he can shoot, it’s the work that goes into that beautiful shooting stroke that deserves the mention. Young players should take a look at those videos online and see how Caleb moves around screens to set up his shot (shoulder to shoulder off the screen every time and his inside curls gives him more room to work). And once he finds that window his release is gorgeous (contesting arms didn’t seem to matter). Throw in high percentage results and it’s time that a lot of area schools dive into his video. Caleb had six triples in the win over Team Factory and his team wouldn’t even have been in the game against the Attack had Caleb not scored that 25. Caleb and Tre Holloman Tre Holloman 6'2" | PG Cretin-Derham Hall | 2022 State #57 Nation MN made a fantastic duo this weekend.
Jaelen Treml Jaelen Treml 6'4" | SF Hopkins | 2021 State MN of Minnesota Select Ohnstad (6’3, Hopkins, 2021, Guard). Treml is playing lead guard for Select and he’s done a fine job making sure that Patterson is taking shots in the right spot, and that guys like Chisley and Dushek got deep touches. Treml is also the guy Select and Hopkins put on top scorers. And this weekend he stepped into the role of scorer more than I have seen in the past. The game winner in overtime with the reverse lay-up was big but earlier in games Treml moved to spots to knock out mid-range jumpers with consistency. It definitely has several NSIC schools and some D1s asking about him.
