The schedule featured many local 14u teams including Lincolns Supreme, Omaha Sports Academy, and Team Nebraska Express. This gave me a great chance to look at these six incoming freshman forwards and posts from the state of Nebraska.
Kade Cook
Cook was tough to stop in transition in both of his contests Friday evening. He is fast with the ball, got downhill, and long stepped his way to the rim. He had no problem creating great looks for himself, but struggled to finish layups at times. His shot is a little flat, but I saw him make a corner three and he was solid from the free throw line. Cook uses quick crossovers and inside out dribbles to get defenders off balance on the fast break and in the half court.
Marcus Glock Marcus Glock 6'4" | SF Wahoo | 2024 State NE
Glock is a skilled left handed forward that can play big and shoot from outside. In game one, he used his length to be disruptive in the full court press and in passing lanes and finished a bunch of easy basket off forced turnovers. In the second game of the night, Glock isolated posts on the perimeter and used his quickness to beat them to the rim and score through contract. Glock impressed with his versatility Friday night, he rebounded and scored from everywhere on the floor.
Kevin Stubblefield
Stubblefield has great size and strength to play either post position. He moves with fluidity and gets near the rim when he elevates to finish or contest shots. Stubblefield can coral rebound in a wide area on both ends and finishes put backs offensively.
Kuet Gatwech
Gatwech is a really long and versatile forward. Defensively, he can use his length to contest shots and rebound. Offensively, he is very smooth and has some ability to put the ball on the floor and create for himself with the dribble. He has a deceptively quick crossover and was able to beat slower defenders to the basket and down the floor in transition. Gatwech did a good job of creating contact, got to the free throw line, and converted multiple times with a smooth left handed shot.
Joey Vieth
Vieth is a strong and athletic combo forward that set the tone for Omaha Sports Academy in their first game of the night. In the first minute of the game, Joey had a monster two handed block that quickly turned into points on the other end. In the second game of the night, he took slower footed defenders off the dribble and got downhill as a ball handler. Vieth rebounds at a high rate, finishes with efficiency around the basket, and has some outside touch.
Alec Wilkins Alec Wilkins 6'2" | SG Gretna | 2024 State NE
Wilkins is a hard working wing and glue guy for Lincoln Supreme. In his second game of the day, he kept a much bigger matchup off the glass with strong box outs. He also chased down quite a few offensive rebounds. When Wilkins was not on the floor, Lincoln Supreme struggled. He took care of the ball, competed on both ends, and knocked down a couple lefty jump shots.
