Let us go ahead recap some games and look at some top prospects from Day 1 of Havoc in the Heartland.
Game 1: Team Future 16u (IN) vs H.I.T 16u Select
This game was physical all the way through. Best player on the floor was Branden Smith. Smith is just so powerful and bruising in the post and can provide a high amount of scoring there. Really impressed with Aj Roseman as he has stepped up on both ends knocking down some 3s and taking a charge. Also worth noting is Dejuan Echoles’ freakish size and raw athleticism. Team Future took off in the 2nd half. – Final: Team Future: 56, H.I.T 16u Select: 47
Game 2: EG10 16u (IN) vs D1 Indiana (IN)
Lot of iso ball throughout the game from EG10. Antonio Lisenbee was great on the defensive end with a ton of blocks. JJ Louden showed off his smoothness to the rim quite a few times. One of the most underrated players on the court was Ryan Conwell Ryan Conwell 6'2" | SG Pike | 2022 State #155 Nation IN as he just does everything so well on the offense. EG10 is just a roster filled with a straight up athletes top to bottom. – Final: EG10 16u: 69, D1 Indiana: 48
Game 3: Men of the Family 16u (IN) vs Illinois Storm 16u
Not a strong first half from Men of the Family. Struggled to get any offense going and were getting beat by everything defensively. Guard Princeton Young was really the only one showing anything. Showed off some nice ball handles and was pretty active on both ends. Pretty much the same can be said for the second half. Lot of work to be done for this squad. – Final: Men of the Family 16u: 36, Illinois Storm 16u: 55
Game 4: EG10 17u (IN) vs Team M.O.R.E Athletics 17u
EG10 played very well as a team. Their two-headed monster of DJ Hughes DJ Hughes 6'8" | PF Lawrence North | 2021 State #219 Nation IN and Gabe Mcnary Gabe Mcnary 6'8" | PF Avon | 2021 State IN looked very dominant. One of the top performances I saw, however, was from Ronald Johnson Ronald Johnson 6'0" | PG Park Tudor | 2021 State IN . Johnson is just a great shooter who can get hot at any moment, which he did this game. Score was close but EG10 is just too loaded with talent. This team is going to be tough to beat in this event. – Final: EG10 17u: 78, Team M.O.R.E Athletics 17u: 75
Game 5: Southern Indiana Blaze 17u (IN) vs Illinois Jaguars 17u
This game was back and forth the whole time. Blaze has got some really tough kids like Nevin White and Nick Sexton. Their toughest and best player by far is Nick Center, who is just so physical and strong on the drive. Center could also be one of the breakout players of this event. – Final: Southern Indiana Blaze: 43, Illinois Jaguars 17u: 49
Game 6: Men of the Family 17u (IN) vs Tipping Point 2021 (IN)
Men of the Family was in control for the majority of this game. Had a good showing from player Elijah Mattingly, who is excellent at scoring in the post. They just have a loaded roster with players like Bryce Williams Bryce Williams 6'1" | PG Fishers | 2022 State IN , Adam Lester, Caleb Swearingen Caleb Swearingen 6'4" | SG Northview | 2021 State IN , and many others. They should be one of the favorites in tournament play. – Final: Men of the Family: 56, Tipping Point 2021: 40
Game 7: Indiana Game Premier 16u vs Men of the Family 16u
This game was an absolute beat down for the most part. Indiana Game started off on 23-0 run and just never looked back. Game has a couple of nice and tough stretch 4s in Grant St. Aubin and Cole Rappold. Their best player and the one that showed the most is Matt Zdanowicz, who had a ton of steals and well-balanced on offense. – Final: Indiana Game Premier 16u: 59, Men of the Family 16u: 32
