MVP
Brian Parzych Brian Parzych 6'2" | PG Wauwautosa East | 2021 State WI looked unstoppable throughout the weekend and led Wisconsin Independent to a 3-0 record. The Wauwatosa East guard did an excellent job of running the show, pushing the tempo, getting after it defensively, and just lived at the rim when he got the ball in transition. The 6-foot-1 senior also sees the floor very well and had a ton of beautiful assists. A high-energy prospect, Parzcyh just rubs off on the rest of his teammates when he gets in a groove.
BEST PROSPECT
Tayshawn Bridges (Brookfield East) and Nas Beamon (Martin Luther) are going to be two studs in Wisconsin for a long time. I’ve seen some good talent roll through this state. I know it’s just one tournament, but I don’t remember two kids that were this dominant this early. I watched these two incoming freshman, who were playing up in 15U, just suck the life out of their opponents.
BIGGEST SLEEPER
He’s not a sleeper in our rankings, but he’s flying under the radar right now in the state of Wisconsin. Marshawn Robinson Marshawn Robinson 6'3" | SG Waukesha South | 2022 State WI (Waukesha South) looked real good in the game I saw and showed some massive jumps in his perimeter skillset. He’s always been one of the better athletes in Wisconsin’s 2022 class. Now he’s got the handles and shooting stroke to make him a dangerous scorer. Don’t sleep on Robinson defensively either. He’s very fundamentally sound on that end and seems to enjoy shutting people down.
BIGGEST BREAKOUT PERFORMANCE
Thought Grant Asman Grant Asman 6'11" | PF Kimberly | 2021 State WI really showed what I thought he was capable of over the weekend. Always been high on the Kimberly forward, who can kind of get lost in the shuffle during the high school season. However at 6-foot-9, Asman is a strong ball handler and shooter. He’s a mismatch problem waiting to happen and is more athletic than his lanky frame makes him look. More and more Division 1 programs continue to get involved here. Throw in Dustin Beauprey Dustin Beauprey 6'3" | PG Mt Top Christian | 2021 State WI for the Wisconsin Crusaders as well as another prospect who really proved his worth and got his name out there more as well.
BEST DEFENDER
Brody Hartig may not be a guy that’s constantly filling the stat sheet, but he’ll be a player that helps his team win a lot of games. An unselfish guard that does whatever is required of him, Hartig looked strong for Wisconsin Independent defensively against a Wisconsin Playground Club team full of talented, Division 1 potential guards.
BEST SHOOTER
Joe Reuter Joe Reuter 6'4" | SG Chippewa Falls | 2021 State WI opened my eyes quite a bit and ensured he’s going to rise in the next rankings update. I like his ability to catch and shoot off screens from all areas of the floor. He’s got really good positional size at 6-foot-4 and a smooth shooting touch. He’ll take smaller guards down in the post as well and score fading away from the rim.
BEST FLOOR GENERAL
You could give this to Parzych too, but just to add another name, I thought Jack Campion Jack Campion 5'10" | PG Milton | 2022 State WI had
a good weekend. A flashy ball handler and passer, Campion can control the flow of the game and create offense in the blink of an eye. He’s so dangerous in space and can thread the needle with the pass or get all the way to the cup. Although he’s only about 5-foot-10, Campion has an array of finishes in his layup package to avoid getting his shot blocked.
MOST COMPLETE PERFORMANCE
A guy that’s always had a reputation of doing it all, Antuan Nesbitt Antuan Nesbitt 6'4" | SF Racine | 2021 State WI is the straw that stirs the drink for the Wisconsin Sharks. The 6-foot-3 senior is asked to handle the point duties, create offense for himself and others, play bigger than his size and control the glass, and sometimes defend the other team’s best player. It’s tough to project him as a prospect, because you really don’t know what he is or how he fits certain systems, but Nesbitt has proven time and time again to be a top 20 player in WIsconsin.
MOST ENERGY
Alex Singleton Alex Singleton 6'4" | PF Wauwatosa East | 2021 State WI really brought it this weekend. The Wauwatosa East forward changed some games with his energy, toughness, and motor under the rim. The ABC Young Lions were reeling at times and it was Singleton who stopped the bleeding. A 6-foot-4 forward who can play above the rim, rebound, block shots, get up and down in transition, and slash from the high post, Singleton creates a lot of problems for other teams, even though he may not always be at the top of the scouting report.
BEST GLUE GUY
Ben Olson Ben Olson 6'4" | SF Dmc | 2022 State WI from Wisconsin Independent really stands out here. The Sun Prairie wing/forward just plays really hard and makes those effort plays that swing the game in his team’s favor. A 6-foot-4 junior, Olson can play either forward position. He’s got a really strong build, but also some added length. He’s a better scorer than he gets credit for, but relishes the dirty work. Any coach knows they’re going to get everything Olson has each time he steps on the court.
BEST SCORER
Maybe didn’t have his best weekend, and like everyone else, had some rust to shake off, but when he was on, James Graham James Graham 6'9" | SF Nicolet | 2021 #59 Nation WI showed why he is arguably the hottest prospect in the country. The 6-foot-9 small forward just can get whatever shot he wants given his size, length, and smooth shooting stroke. Graham was very effective sizing his man up and shooting over the top or taking guys into the post and making them defend near the rim.
