Friday’s action featured multiple under the radar players who made their mark. See who impressed on night one:
George Bellevue — Wing — Illinois T Wolves 15U
In the first matchup of the night, Bellevue performed at a very high level. The 6-foot-5 wing missed a couple of easy shots around the rim, but he still showed flashes of potential. Multiple times, he was able to use his superior size to rebound and make plays in the paint. Granted, it was a very small sample size, however, Bellevue showed some skills that could translate to the next level.
Adam Labuda — Shooting Guard — Illinois T Wolves 15U
Labuda was one of the best shooters in the gym on Friday night, and there is no question about it. The Illinois T Wolves were not able to get the victory, but the blame definitely should not be placed on the 2023 shooting guard. Labuda knocked down five triples in the second half, including a four-point play. After setting the nets on fire, Labuda is an early candidate for best shooter of the tournament.
Jamisen Young — Point Guard — World Hoops Elite 15U
World Hoops Elite dominated the Wisconsin Crusaders in the first half. A big reason for that dominance was the play of Jamisen Young. The point guard did a terrific job of running WHE’s offense while also scoring the ball. He showed great ball-handling skills and quickness. Watch out for Young in the coming years at Kenosha Bradford.
Will Starks Will Starks 6'4" | SF Kenosha Tremper | 2023 State WI — Small Forward — World Hoops Elite 15U
Stark dominated in Friday night’s matchup. The 6-foot-4 small forward dropped 30 points while displaying his great athleticism and strength. His team wasn’t able to get it done in the end, but Stark was still hands down the best prospect on the court. The Kenosha Tremper SF has a very bright future.
Kyle Wisnewski — Point Guard — Wisconsin Crusaders 15U
For most of the first half, the Wisconsin Crusaders looked like they had lost. World Hoops Elite was dominating in all aspects of the game. But Wisnewski and the Crusaders deserve a lot of credit. They battled back and eventually hung on for the comeback win. Wisnewski was the player that led the come from behind charge. The point guard was very effective as a slasher in the second period. Without Wisnewski, the Crusaders are probably looking at an opening night loss.
Ashe Oglesby Ashe Oglesby 6'6" | PF The Prairie School | 2023 State WI — Power Forward — Wisconsin Sharks 17U
Oglesby is a 2023 prospect, yet this weekend he is playing up on a 17U squad. The power forward was quiet in the first half, but he picked up his play in the second period and started to make some noise. Oglesby did a very good job of rebounding the ball and converting on layups around the rim. Once he gets the chance to develop his game more, the 6-foot-5 PF will be a great college prospect.
Jesus Perez Jesus Perez 5'10" | PG Morton | 2021 State IL — Point Guard — Illinois Outwork 17U
Perez’s 5-foot-10 frame didn’t limit him in the slightest on Friday night. The point guard displayed his quickness and ball-handling skills, which he used to get open shots. Thanks to Perez, Illinois Outwork earned the overtime win over the Wisconsin Sharks.
