Prospect standouts:
- Antuan Nesbitt Antuan Nesbitt 6'4" | SF Racine | 2021 State WI — SF — 2021
Nesbitt was the straw that stirred the drink for the Sharks in the #HardWorkSZN Kickoff. The star small forward can drive to the hoop, shoot from outside, and also use his length and athletism to play great on-ball defense. Prep Hoops Wisconsin’s Evan Flood awarded The Praire School standout with the most complete performance following his play in Appleton. Some mid-major D1 programs are already expressing interest in Nesbitt’s talent. Expect the list of interested programs to get longer in the coming months.
- Trey Jenkins — SF — 2021
I was impressed with what Jenkins was able to accomplish this weekend. The 6-foot-4 small forward is primarily known as a sharpshooter, but I actually liked how he was able to score the ball in a multitude of ways. In addition to knocking down three-pointers, Jenkins did a good job of slashing to the rim and making tough layups. He isn’t ranked right now, however, if the SF continues to play well, he could end up finding a spot in the rankings.
- Ashe Oglesby Ashe Oglesby 6'6" | PF The Prairie School | 2023 State WI — PF — 2023
Oglesby has the potential to develop into a really good prospect. The power forward — who was playing up two age groups this weekend — started slow but got better and better as the weekend went on. The 2023 prospect’s main strength is scoring in the paint. He is strong enough to finish through contact and creative enough to find ways to finish around contact. Oglesby also displayed a smooth jumper that promises to get more effective as he gets older. Currently ranked as the 10th best prospect in the 2023 class, the PF already has shown that he has enough talent to play at the next level.
- Max Kunnert Max Kunnert 6'3" | SG Hillcrest Prep | 2021 State AZ — SG — 2021
I wouldn’t say that Kunnert had his best stuff this weekend. But, his play during the 2019-20 school season made it very clear that the Brookfield Academy prospect is one of the better guards in Wisconsin’s 2021 class. He struggled to knock down open outside shots, which is likely a by-product of not being able to play in an organized basketball game for three and a half months. Look for Kunnert to find his shooting stroke in upcoming tournaments.
Game recaps:
- Wisconsin Sharks vs. Illinois Outwork
In their first game back on the hardwood, the Sharks got off to a very slow start. In the first half, Outwork shot the ball very well, while Nesbitt buoyed his squad with 18 points. At the end of the first period, IO held a 47-37 lead. In the opening minutes of the second half, Outwork stretched their lead to 61-47. But, a lot of credit has to be given to the Sharks. Led by some great play from Oglesby and a huge late three-pointer by Jacob Fallico, they forced overtime. In OT, neither team was able to score until Dae’quan Davis drilled a step-back three as time expired. Outwork held on for the 88-85 victory.
- Wisconsin Sharks vs. Evolution Basketball
Coming off a disappointing loss on Friday night, the Sharks bounced back with a wire to wire win over Evolution Basketball. The trio of Nesbitt, Oglesby, and Jenkins led their squad to a comfortable 71-62 win. Evolution put up a good fight in this game. However, after the Sharks got rid of some rust after their first game, they were too much for EB to handle.
- Wisconsin Sharks vs. Sharks Basketball Academy White
In their final matchup of the weekend, the Wisconsin Sharks had their way with Sharks Basketball Academy White. In this game, the Sharks did a really great job of playing as a team, specifically on offense. The ball never got stuck in one player’s hand for too long. Facing SBA’s zone defense, WS was able to penetrate the paint and then pass the ball out to an open shooter. In the first half, Sharks Basketball Academy was able to hang around, but in the second period, the Wis. Sharks took control and eventually won the game 86-70.
