Join us as we breakdown some game film from events and take a look at some teams and prospects in the state. Today, we are looking at D1 Indiana Rising Stars 2021 from the Legacy Court Open Run.
Danny Laughlin – #31 6’2 SG 2021 – Mt. Vernon-Fortville (IN)
Laughlin is small and thin combo guard. Pretty quick with some solid handles. Had a couple of assists on the day but his offense was on the quiet side a little bit. Maybe it was just that day but would like to see him be a little more aggressive with his scoring. Looks to be a solid prospect that would be a huge part of Mt. Vernon-Fortville this upcoming season.
Cameron Lusby – #30 5’10 PG 2021 – Mt. Vernon-Fortville (IN)
Lusby is a smaller lead guard that plays very smart. Had a few assists on the day and was good at finding his teammates for buckets. Did not shoot too much but does have a capable floater. He is a true lead guard for sure. Needs to add some more strength but overall he had a solid day.
Brandon Matney – #1 6’4 SF 2021 – New Castle (IN)
Matney is a tall forward with a good amount of athletic ability. Runs the floor well and was one of the better pick-and-roll players I saw. He has the skill and size to guard multiple spots. Really is an overall talented player. Expect Matney to have a breakout senior season for New Castle.
Cole McDaniel Cole McDaniel 5'10" | PG New Castle | 2021 State IN – #4 5’9 PG 2021 – New Castle (IN)
Cole is a small lead guard who can light it up. Not going to be ultra-dynamic in how he scores the ball but does has some speed and quickness that can score when needed but also drive to kick. If given the green light, he can hit jumpers from deep pretty well and very quickly. Has no problem getting them off against length and has range beyond the arc. He’s been mixing in a floater but doesn’t have touch on it yet but down the road could be a nice weapon for him.
Drake Moore – #11 6’1 SG 2021 – Morristown (IN)
Drake is a tall guard with some room to develop. He is an off-guard who has some handles and creativity to get in the lane. Leans a little on his shot but has good length and could end up being valuable as a defender with some work at the next level. Has some toughness and size and for a small school program, could be a nice piece to defensively give you versatility without losing a scoring option at your guard spot.
Lucas Prewitt – #22 6’4 SF 2021 – Fishers (IN)
Lucas is a big wing with some shooting ability. Did most of his work as a catch-and-shoot guy. Confident from beyond the arc and willing to get it off quickly. Big enough frame that he could be an interesting take for a smaller school program that needs a 3/4 combo to play inside and out. Not a tall forward but has enough size to be a little bit of a mismatch when needed.
Nate Smith – #34 6’5 PF 2021 – New Castle (IN)
Smith is a big post player with some solid footwork. Rolls to the basket well and is good about getting to the right spot on offense. His rebounding is solid and he uses his strength well. Looked to be a just a tad raw at times so it will be interesting to see how he looks during his senior season. Smith has the size to compete with almost any post player in the state.
Drew Walker – #24 6’3 SF 2021 – Mt. Vernon-Fortville (IN)
Walker is a tall wing that has a solid amount of skill. Had a few nice assists in the first game and looks to be an excellent passer. Looks to be a capable shooter as well as he had a smooth 3 off the catch. Pretty aggressive going after the rebounds. Should be in for a great senior season.
