Join us as we breakdown some game film from events and take a look at some teams and prospects in the state. Today, we are looking at Grand Park Premier 2023 Red from the Legacy Court Open Run.
Sam Orme – #0 6’4 SF 2023 – Carmel (IN)
Orme is a long and tall forward that can play either the wing or the post. Runs the floor pretty well and is long enough to steal or deflect the ball. Had a few 3s off the catch and a nice block. He rebounds well also. Would like to see him do some work in the post more often but it looks as though the outside is working so far. Interesting prospect to watch moving forward.
Jaylen Mullen Jaylen Mullen 6'0" | PG North Daviess | 2023 State IN – #1 5’11 PG 2023 – North Daviess (IN)
Mullen is shorter lead guard that plays with a ton of aggressiveness. Has a real scrappy playing style and has a ton of energy to him. Rebounds well and had a nice right-handed drive right off the tip of the first game. He has some good speed and handles to create in the half court and transition. Also does a great job in limiting turnovers. Solid player but would like to see him try to score some more.
Braden Walters – #2 6’4 SF 2024 – Linton-Stockton (IN)
Walters was the youngest player on this team and was playing up. Pretty tall small forward and looks to have some good on-court IQ already at his age. Had a nice steal on the defensive end that led to a fastbreak score. Also had a nice right-handed hook that hit nothing but the net. Walters is a prospect to watch for as his high school career starts to take off.
Shayne Spear – #4 6’3 SF 2023 – Kokomo (IN)
Spear is a wing player that has some good size on him. Even with his big frame, he has nice bounce to his game. Pretty aggressive on the boards and had a few rebounds on the day. Looks like he is good about mixing it up on offense with his shooting and driving. His best play of the day was his steal that led to him hitting a great full-court pass that resulted in 2 points. Probably needs to slim down just a tad but overall he is a tough player to stop once he gets going.
Christian Johnson Christian Johnson 6'1" | SG Parke Heritage | 2023 IN – #10 6’1 SG 2023 – Parke Heritage (IN)
Johnson is a bigger shooting guard that is just so tough on the court. Arguably was one of the best rebounders on the day and gives his team a ton of second chance scoring opportunities. He is a extremely aggressive and does not take any plays off. Does most of scoring down low so would like to see his outside shot some more. Johnson is the type of player every team should strive to have on their roster.
Bryson Carpenter – #14 6’0 PG 2023 – Terre Haute North (IN)
Carpenter is an athletic wing that can do a little bit of everything right now. He is a good defender and his strong frame helps with that. Looks as though he sticks to scoring behind the arc at the moment and could see him turning into a sharp-shooter in the future. Also had a few rebounds on the day as well. Carpenter looks to have a ton of potential and upside to him.
Logan Webb Logan Webb 6'3" | SG Linton-Stockton | 2023 State IN – #24 6’2 SF 2023 – Linton-Stockton (IN)
Webb is a tall player that can play either the 2 or 3 spot right now. Pretty good defender and had a nice steal in the first game that eventually led to a score. Pretty complete player on offense as he can both drive and shoot. Has a real nice 15ft jumper from that free-throw line. Needs to add a little bit more strength but is a solid prospect overall.
Peyton Bledsoe Peyton Bledsoe 6'4" | SF Loogootee | 2023 State IN – #30 6’4 SF 2023 – Loogootee (IN)
Bledsoe is a big guard with an advanced body and some really solid shooting ability. He has a ton of patience to his game and hardly ever does anything wild on the offense. Pretty solid rebounder right now. His best play of the day was a fadeaway shot off the rebound that swished right in. He is already so advance at his age and plays like a senior already. Very good prospect to keep an eye on.
Drew Cook – #32 6’0 PG 2023 – Linton-Stockton (IN)
Cook is a true lead guard that has a “pass-first” playing style. Looks to be pretty strong right now and has a chance to be a great defender. Does a good job in always moving on the offense and had a smooth corner 3 off the catch. Also had a good block in the first game. Cook is a solid player overall.
Joey Hart Joey Hart 6'5" | SG Linton-Stockton | 2023 State #214 Nation IN – #33 6’3 SG 2023 – Linton-Stockton (IN)
Hart is an aggressive scoring guard with good size and skill already. He was arguably the best player on the court in both games he played in. Tall and strong and had an awesome fastbreak slam in the first game. Has the size and skill to guard multiple spots. Has some high basketball IQ and does everything pretty well on both ends. Already has an offer from Indiana State and one would think he will start getting more offers sooner rather than later.
