Join us as we breakdown some game film from events and take a look at some teams and prospects in the state. Today, we are looking at Indiana Game Select 2021 from the Legacy Court Open Run.
Jerell Johnson – #5 5’8 PG 2021 – Calumet (IN)
Johnson is a quick lead guard. Has a good amount of speed and shiftiness. Did not really look to score all that much but he set his teammates up well. Was not afraid to get in there and snag a few rebounds. Could maybe see Johnson breaking out this season and maybe snagging an offer or two.
Logan Van Essen Logan Van Essen 6'0" | PG Illiana Christian | 2021 State IN – #24 6’0 PG 2021 – Illiana Christian (IN)
Van Essen is a tough lead guard that has some quickness to his game. Real aggressive and likes to push the tempo. Had a few nice baseline jumpers. The best ability that Van Essen brings to the table is his excellent ball handling skills. This aggressive guard is starting to show that he can play at the next level.
Jakobe Jones – #1 6’2 SG 2021 – Merrillville (IN)
Jones is a bigger shooting guard that showed signs of great play. Good rebounder and plays defense well. Best play was his steal that lead to him scoring on a fastbreak in the first game. His jumper probably needs some more work as it was short multiple times. Bruising guard that should have a solid senior season.
Caleb Applegate Caleb Applegate 6'2" | SG Penn | 2021 State IN – #30 6’2 SG 2021 – Penn (IN)
Applegate is a quick wing that could switch between a guard or forward. Good looking jumper that just needs a bit more consistency. Real good defender and is very active on that end. Like his motor and his energy. Interesting player to keep an eye on this high school season.
Jeremiah Lovett Jeremiah Lovett 6'2" | SG Munster | 2021 State IN – #10 6’2 SG 2021 – Munster (IN)
Lovett is a tall and big shooting guard. Sharp shooter but his shot can look a bit flat at times. Had a nice 3 off the catch in the first game. Not a ton of overall speed but does have that size and toughness in the lane. Solid rebounder as well. Could for sure see him becoming a lights out shooter at the next level.
Clayton Bubash Clayton Bubash 6'5" | SF Munster | 2021 State IN – #12 6’5 PF 2021 – Munster (IN)
Bubash is an undersized power forward with a solid amount of talent. Really good around the 15ft line whether that be a jumper or on the drive from there. Really is a true stretch 4 which could help him a ton at the next level with mismatch opportunities. Defensively, he is a good rebounder who can also be tough scoring off boards. Good amount of potential in Bubash.
Tyler Vanderwoude – #32 6’4 SF 2021 – Chesterton (IN)
Vanderwoude is a tall forward that can play either the 3 or 4. Did not really show that much of an offense but was solid defensively. Real good rebounder. Has some size and strength to be put in different defensive matchups. Overall, Vanderwoude is a solid player that is going to do all the little things to make his team successful.
Evan Bush – #23 6’5 PF 2021 – Michigan City (IN)
Bush is a tall and athletic power forward. Very aggressive on the drive and can provide a good amount of scoring from that. Made a great pass from a cut he saw. Bush has some talent and size to work with. Would argue he is in the overlooked category in the state.
Flynn Carlson Flynn Carlson 6'7" | PF Victory Christian Academy | 2021 State IN – #13 6’7 PF 2021 – Victory Christian (IN)
Carlson is a long, lanky forward who is solid all-around. Started off the first half of the first game kind of slow but really picked it up in the second half. Was the best rebounder on his team. A little small as a center but has the length you want to help defend the rim. Runs the floor well and can give you some high level scoring in the post. Adding some muscle and strength will be critical for Carlson to take his game to the next level.
