Join us as we breakdown some game film from events and take a look at some teams and prospects in the state. Today, we are looking at Team Focus 2023 Gold from the Legacy Court Open Run.
Brady Davis – #5 5’10 PG 2023 – Jay County (IN)
Davis is a shorter guard that has a bit of athleticism. Runs the baseline well is constantly moving. He really sticks to the drive as he did not really shoot it that much. Best play of the day was his right-handed drive that resulted in an and 1. Should be a solid player as his career continues.
Joshua Dowlen – #25 5’8 PG 2023 – Jay County (IN)
Dowlen is a small but quick guard. Solid ball handles and can make some great passes. Noticed that he relied on the right hand just a tad bit much. Best play of the day for him was when he set a screen and rolled down the baseline and converted a baseline floater. Could end up being pretty good in a couple of years.
Alex Miller – #21 6’0 SG 2023 – Woodlan (IN)
Miller is a shooting guard with a long and thin body. Good on-ball handles can mix it up a little. Solid on the drive. Could have been the best defender on his team as he has a steal and couple of blocks. Needs to add some more size to his frame.
Derek Overbay – #10 6’3 SF 2023 – Garrett (IN)
Overbay is a big wing. Pretty physical and can get tot he basket on the dribble. Would have liked to have seen his offensive showing a bit more. Also needs to add some more speed. Looks like he has some breakout potential.
Mark Taylor II – #3 5’6 PG 2023 – Bishop Luers (IN)
Taylor is a very small lead guard right now. Very quick, however, and has the ability to blow by defenders if he wants. Very good on the dribble-drive. His size could play a factor in how his high school career moves froward so hopefully he his a growth-spurt. Solid player thus far.
Mason Thompson – #1 5’10 PG 2023 – Blackhawk Christian (IN)
Thompson is a short lead guard but has a long frame. Could see him growing into more of a wing player. Need to see him be more aggressive all around. Just really did not do a whole lot on both ends. Hopefully we see him some more for Blackhawk when the high school season takes place.
Christian Troyer – #24 6’0 SG 2023 – Lakeland (IN)
Troyer is a small guard with some long arms. Solid amount of athleticism and is pretty strong right now. Need to see a bit more offense from him but he looked to be a solid defender. Should grow some more.
Zeke Wachtman – #13 6’2 SF 2023 – Lakeland (IN)
Wachtman is a tall and skinny wing. Solid ball handles and makes some great passes. Real good rebounder and had a few on the day. His offense looked way more aggressive in the second game. Wachtman may be worth keeping an eye on these next couple of years.
Blake Weeks – #11 5’11 PG 2023 – Central Noble (IN)
Weeks is a short lead guard. Made a couple of solid rebounds on both ends. Probably needs to tone up his body and get faster. His shot may need a little adjusting as it looks real funky at the moment. If he grows some more he might be able switch up the way he plays, which could help him long term.
