Join us as we breakdown some game film from events and take a look at some teams and prospects in the state. Today, we are looking at Grand Park Premier 2022 Red from the Legacy Court Open Run.
Cameron Haffner Cameron Haffner 6'3" | SG Westfield | 2022 State IN – #0 6’2 SG 2022 – Westfield (IN)
Haffner is a tall guard with some handles and ability to play real fast. Started off the first game with a huge steal that led to a fastbreak, reverse dunk. Showed off his athleticism a few times throughout the day. Slashes and defends well. Showed off some shooting with a 3 off the catch. His energy makes him tough to stop once he gets going.
Braden Smith Braden Smith 6'0" | PG Westfield | 2022 State IN – #1 5’10 PG 2022 – Westfield (IN)
Smith is shorter lead guard that is arguably one of the best in his class. So talented and does so many things at a high level. Had a few steals on the day and really pushed the tempo when he was in. Did not shoot it a ton as he looked to get his teammates involved more. However, he is known for having a great jumper as well. Keep an eye on Smith because this kid is going to be absolutely great by the senior year.
Larry Pierce Larry Pierce 6'5" | SF University | 2022 State IN – #15 6’4 SF 2022 – University (IN)
Pierce is an athletic small forward with a ton of upside. Pierce continues to look better each time I see him. Stays locked in and like the way he defends. Did have trouble with finishing a few times but was aggressive about going to the rim. Had a few key rebounds as well. Pierce is continuing to look like a complete player.
C.J. Thompson – #3 5’11 PG 2022 – Park Tudor (IN)
Thompson is smaller lead guard that has a little swagger to his game. Handles the ball well and limits turnovers. Really good about scanning the entire court before making a play. Good defender but would have liked to have seen his offensive scoring a bit more. Solid day for Thompson and should get even better if he works at it.
Nic Depasquale – #23 6’2 SF 2022 – Westfield (IN)
Depasquale is a small forward that plays tough. Does not really shoot all that often as he looks to drives more often than not. Almost looks like he has one speed and that is fast. Is one of those defenders that is going to play in your face and make you beat him. If he continues to improve, he should start getting more looks.
Sam Jacobs Sam Jacobs 6'4" | SF Hamilton Southeastern | 2022 State IN – #24 6’4 SF 2022 – Hamilton Southeastern (IN)
Jacobs is a tall wing that is real aggressive. Drove to the basket most of the time and was strong about it. Just a smooth player that wants to play through contact. Also had a few steals and rebounds. He’s not a guy that is looking to make play after play scoring but best when he can be opportunistic and really find his spots.
Kyle Thomas Kyle Thomas 6'4" | SG Cloverdale | 2022 State IN – #32 6’2 SG 2022 – Cloverdale (IN)
Thomas is a tall shooting guard that has a good amount of athleticism. Had some fast cuts to the basket and tried to be a factor on offense. Smooth shooter and does a great job in following his shot. Is a true mismatch right now because he gets either bigger forwards or small guards. Lot of upside in Thomas.
Isaiah Davis Isaiah Davis 6'9" | PF Zionsville | 2022 State IN – #33 6’7 PF 2022 – Greenwood Christian Academy (IN)
Davis is a long power forward with some athletic ability. Finished real well at the rim but did not have a ton of opportunities to show off his improved jumper. He plays like a true stretch 4. Real good rebounder and gives his team a ton of second chance points. Lot of potential in Davis and has a chance to be a real smooth power forward going forward.
Alex Covey Alex Covey 6'6" | C Tri-West | 2022 State IN – #34 6’6 PF 2022 – Tri-West (IN)
Covey is a big, bruising post who can really score around the rim. Gets a ton of rebounds and has great shot blocking ability. Best play was when he blocked a shot and sprinted all the way down the court for a tough layup. He is one of more physical players we have seen in his class. Should start to see him take his game to the next level.
Muriel Puou – #12 6’9 C 2022
Puou is a long center that is a very raw right now. His main struggle was him trying to do a bit too much with the ball and thus having some turnovers. Did knock down a 3 and showed off his high release shot. Has enough athleticism to work with. He may be a raw but he does have the size and length to end up making him a solid prospect.
Cael Vanderbush – #22 6’7 PF 2022 – Plainfield (IN)
Vanderbush is an athletic forward that moves really well. Grabbed a ton of rebounds on the day. Loves to draw contact and finishes great at the rim. Blocked a shot and showed off his high vertical. Best play was his steal then a fastbreak slam. One of the more underrated athletes in the state right now.
