The gist of the program was this: I offered to review a prospect’s full game film and provide a detailed scouting report on that player’s strengths and weaknesses, along with some workout tools developed by a friend and trainer.
The idea quickly took off and as my email inbox filled with submissions from across the country, I thought it would be great to highlight some of those players on the Prep Hoops platform, as well. So, here are a handful of 2022 prospects I reviewed over the last few months.
Malachi Murrell Malachi Murrell 6'2" | SF Shadow Hills | 2022 CA-S , La Quinta – Murrell was a versatile piece to CIF Southern Section championship team at Shadow Hills of Indio while playing out of position the majority of the time. The 6-foot-e wing is a versatile defender who showed the ability to guard multiple positions and clean the defensive glass well for his size. Offensively, Murrell is a slasher and finisher who uses his length and athleticism to cover ground with minimal steps and dribbles and extend to the cup for finishes.
Camden Thompson, Clovis East – It was evident from the first couple of quarters we watched that Thompson was of the “high IQ” variety of player. The combo guard doesn’t allow the ball to stick in his hands, is willing to make the extra pass, and always probes the lane with his head on a swivel. Thompson throws accurate and timely passes to open shooters off of drive and kick opportunities, but an also score for himself with his balance mid-range pull-up.
Roddie Anderson Roddie Anderson 6'1" | PG Fountain Valley | 2022 State CA-S , Fountain Valley – What stands out most about Anderson on his film is his combination of speed, quick twitch reaction time and his strong, physical takes to the basket. The 6-foot-2 point guard is tough to cover when he has a full head of steam in transition because of how quickly he covers ground and puts a defender on his heels. Anderson is a defense-to-offense guard who shoots passing lanes for steals, picks sloppy ball handlers, and capitalizes on those mistakes with fast break buckets.
Cameron Marshall Cameron Marshall 6'2" | SG Patrick Henry | 2022 State CA-S , Patrick Henry – Marshall is a guy who plays with a chip on his shoulder and a little bit of edge to his game. The 6-foot-2 shooting guard is a consistent three-point shooter from multiple spots behind the arc, moves well without the basketball and has a smooth transition into his pull-up jumper. Marshall can take advantage of straight-line drives, using his burly frame to absorb and finish through contact.
