The gist of the program was this: I offered to review a prospect’s full game film and provide a detailed scouting report on that player’s strengths and weaknesses, along with some workout tools developed by a friend and trainer.
The idea quickly took off and as my email inbox filled with submissions from across the country, I thought it would be great to highlight some of those players on the Prep Hoops platform, as well. So, here are a handful of 2021 prospects I reviewed over the last few months.
Zach Bronson, Hamilton – Bronson has a really nice overall feel for the game with his ability to get into the paint, draw defenders, and dish accurate and timely passes to teammates for open shots. Offensively, Bronson is a crafty finisher who can knock down the open three-point shot with consistency.
Zion Sutton, Westchester – Sutton is a physical, tough and hard-nosed guard who gives effort and energy on both ends of the floor. He’s a scrappy on-ball defender who uses his strength and lateral speed to keep opposing guards out of the paint. Offensively, he’s best when getting downhill and using his strong frame to absorb and finish through contact.
Johnathan Stradford, Yucaipa – Stradford was a guy we hadn’t seen before, so we were glad he sent his film in. The 6-foot-1 point guard is both tough and heady, makes high IQ decisions in transition and half-court settings, and does a nice job of turning defense into offense. Stradford is best when getting downhill in transition and putting pressure on the rim.
Michael Joaquin, Yucaipa – Joaquin is a high-rate three-point shooter off the catch who possesses fundamental shooting mechanics and great balance through his follow through. The 6-footer can play both on or off the ball with his steady ball-handling ability and is a consistent one and two-dribble pull-up shooter.
