The varsity level of the tournament consisted of teams from all over Texas. I got the chance to see some promising 2021 graduates that are entering their final high school season of basketball. Here we take a look at the biggest standout players from Clash of Champions.
Sparkplug Player of the Weekend (Opening Day)Ty’Rawn Anthony – Guard – Texas Swish – Arlington High School – C/o 2021
This score first player kept his team in the game with his scoring. Anthony is a true competitor who just keeps coming at you. He excelled when driving the ball, he constantly drove the lane and drew fouls that got him to the line multiple times; in game 2 of opening day, he lived at the free-throw line. Ty’Rawn did his part, he came in off the bench and was a legit sparkplug player. Every time Ty’Rawn Anthony entered the game he put points on the board, especially in the clutch where he drove in and made an unbelievable three-point play.
Sparkplug Player of the Weekend (Championship Day)Jerqualen Parks – Point Guard – Texas Swish – Kimball High School – C/o 2022
Parks is an explosive ball-handler with all of the confidence in the world. Jerqualen was always ready to get a bucket. He was at his best when pulling up off the dribble, Parks had no trouble getting to his spots for a solid mid-range jumper. One of the most difficult players to defend one-on-one, he showed elite quickness and blow-by speed, if they played him too close he beat them to the rack, and when given too much space he shot it in their face. Jerqualen Parks made scoring look easy at times, he did a good job of shooting when contested shots, drawing fouls, and getting into the teeth of the defense.
Floor General of the Weekend
Nehemiah ‘RB’ Bowers – Point Guard – HST – DasCHE Homeschool – C/o 2021
RB was one of the top 2 purest point guards in the tournament. There’s nothing on the court he cannot do, he consistently created scoring opportunities for his teammates, drove and looked to dump it off or kick it out. Once he realized his teammates’ shots weren’t falling, he took over the game. Bowers was HST’s primary ball-handler and was also responsible for most of the action on his team. I didn’t see a single defender out there that could stop him or even slow him down. The kid has no quit in him what so ever, Bowers stayed aggressive on both ends and continued to attack even when being blown out. RB was hot and had it going for himself, he even produced 3 straight possessions where he got to the basket and finished with an incredibly difficult layup. On the defensive end, he started blocking shots and was the one and only guy on his team picking a man up full court; outstanding play by RB Bowers.
Top Shooter
Quinn Moudy – Shooting Guard – Brock Elite – Brock High School – C/o 2021)
Every time I looked up this guy was making another 3-pointer. Quinn Moudy was the shot creator for Brock Elite, he has a nice controlled handle that’s good enough to get guys leaning and off-balance. A quick shooter, high release, with deep range, Moudy is a reliable scorer, any time Brock Elite needed a bucket Quinn got it for them, even in crunch time.
