Continue ReadingAs we head into the heart of the summer, I thought it would be fun to look into possible breakout candidates for the hopeful HS season in the fall. Either they will see their stock go up or finally get those much deserved offers for the first time.
I have 21 breakout seniors to comment about. (15 currently ranked and 6 not ranked)
Here are the next eight potential breakout seniors:
No. 49 Timothy Cochrane Timothy Cochrane 6'5" | SF Phhoenix Prep | 2022 State AZ (Phhoenix Prep)
-An extremely explosive wing forward is one of the most athletic in the class. His shot has improved and he makes plays for others and defends.
No. 58 Yahir Garcia Yahir Garcia 6'4" | SG Southern AZ Volunteers | 2021 State AZ (Tucson)
-The longer wing shooter is just scratching the surface and many players in Tucson are usually overlooked. He can shoot and is improving his wiggle to get to the cup.
No. 59 Ravion Hodge Ravion Hodge 6'4" | SF Phhoenix Prep | 2022 State AZ (Cesar Chavez)
-The long lefty had a mini breakout last season but should show what he can do even more without the 4 other starters on the team. He can shoot, handle it and defend.
No. 67 Jake Clapper Jake Clapper 6'5" | SF Desert Edge | 2021 State AZ (Desert Edge)
-Grew a full inch to 6’5 and has improved every single year. Coach Lovely has been waiting for this season for the last couple of years and Clapper is the key to all of this. He can shoot it from mid to the 3pt line and is one of the team leaders.
No. 73 Myles Hersha Myles Hersha 6'9" | C SoAZ Vols | 2022 State AZ (Salpointe Catholic)
-Another one that grew an inch and is up to 6’9. He played sparingly on the 4A state champs off the bench and he could become a key factor on next years team with his rebounding, shot blocking and scoring down low.
No. 78 Tony Elliott Jr Tony Elliott Jr 6'2" | PG Desert Mountain | 2021 State AZ (Desert Mountain)
-The long PG grew an inch and is improving his skill to go along with his facilitating. He uses his big wingspan to defend and collect steals and will look to lead the Wolves to a 5A playoff run.
No. 79 Jevon Humphrey Jevon Humphrey 6'0" | SG Chaparral | 2021 State AZ (Chaparral) (Pictured)
-A scoring guard is another that has improved every year. He is strong, keep improving his handle and can shoot from mid to the 3pt line.
No. 100 Daryian Matthews Daryian Matthews 6'5" | PF Dysart | 2021 State AZ (Dysart)
-The low post forward has an elite motor and is one of the top rebounders in the class. His huge length, big hands and muscle to provide him with the goods to achieve his task. He can score the ball versus taller post players as well.
