The event was run by OTR Exposure and here are some new faces that stood out from the 2023 class.
Jaland Lowe Jaland Lowe 6'2" | PG Fort Bend Marshall | 2023 State #124 Nation TX 6’1″ PG The Kincaid School [Houston, TX] 2023
Jaland is a tough guard that is solid with or without the ball in his hands. He was able to create for himself off the dribble, no screen needed ever, it was good to see a prospect take his opponent without making it an obvious mismatch by using a screen. He was able to score the ball around the rim with some crafty finishes. He also knocked down some tough trey balls. He showcased his ability to be a playmaker and get his teammates involved also.
Tyler Smith Tyler Smith 6'9" | SF Overtime Elite | 2023 TX 6’9″ SF Fort Bend Bush HS [Richmond, TX] 2023
With a lot of attention focused on Tyler because of national recognition people were gunning for him and were afraid at the same time. He wasn’t in the gym tearing the rim off the backboards, but instead, he was shooting the ball from the perimeter where he shot it really well and his jumper looks a lot more natural and he looks more comfortable playing. He still was grabbing rebounds and making the easy buckets inside the paint and altered shots defensively. I’m looking forward to the High School season to see how he progresses throughout the season as a main focal point.
Josh Ugbaja Josh Ugbaja 6'5" | SF Klein Forest | 2023 State TX 6’5″ WG Legacy School of Sports science [Spring, TX] 2023
Josh game gets more polished every time I see him play. He was able to take his man off the dribble to the rim. He showed his outside game as well with some tough pull up trey balls. He also plays above the rim and was a force in the paint defensively. He will be transferring from Klein Forest High School a traditionally top public school in Texas, he will be attending Legacy School of Sports Science.
Jacolb Cole Jacolb Cole 6'8" | SF Link Academy | 2023 #148 Nation MO 6’6″ SG Bellaire HS [Houston, TX] 2023
Cole has grown in height and maybe pushing 6’7″ right now. He has a really good handle on the ball. Solid feel for the game his length made him a force defensively while on-ball and contesting shots. He has good lateral movement and closeout speed as he makes up a lot of ground really quick with minimal steps. He was able to score with his back to the basket and in the mid-range game.
Finley Bizjack Finley Bizjack 6'5" | CG Byron Nelson | 2023 State #131 Nation TX 6’3″ SG Byron Nelson HS [Trophy Club, TX] 2023
Finley is a tough guard that you need to keep up with when he’s on the court. He has a nice dribble combo to create for himself. He made some tough baskets at the camp on all levels of the floor. He had a nice turn around fadeaway from about 16 feet out that touched nothing but the bottom of the net. Hardly any jumper touched the rim when it went in. He is more than just a good shooter he also has very active hands defensively.
Jesse Fuller 6’5″ WF Tomball HS [Tomball, TX] 2023
Jesse is very bouncy. He had the most dunks out of everyone at the entire camp. He had at least one each game. I feel a lot of players didn’t take this prospect seriously because he didn’t get a lot of touches, but when he did he converted and I’m not talking about I left my man and he gets easy under the basket bucket. I’m talking about catch on the perimeter and take you baseline to finish you in the rim with a dunk or a tough contested lay. He can shoot the ball as well from the perimeter but isn’t comfortable enough to take slightly contested jumpers, but if he’s open he will light you up as well.
