The Virginia Nets and Team Trezz (NC) were two teams that turned heads after undefeated finishes at 3-0 on the weekend at Big Shots Nationals. The Virginia Net were led by 2023 guard Lawrence Cole Jr., who turned heads with a game-winning 3-pointer to cap off a 17-point performance. He’s a 6-foot-2 guard that led the division in points per game (21.7 ppg) and total points (65). He also put up 25 points in a win over Juice All-Stars NC . Along with Cole, 6-foot-3 forward Elijah Mitchell and 6-foot-1 guard Jachan Anthony were two other prospects that also stood out for the Virginia Nets. Mitchell finished third in the division in total points (54) which was powered by a 32-point performance against Juice All-Stars NC . Anthony capped off the weekend with a 22-point game against Basketpoint USA to show what he can do in the backcourt.
Jamal Townsend Jamal Townsend 6'0" | CG Northern Nash | 2023 State NC and Jordan Vick were two names that stood out for Team Trezz . Townsend carried the load at lead guard, averaging 14.3 ppg while Vick was an indispensable piece on the defensive end, blocking shots and starting fastbreak opportunities. Vick exploded for 25 points in a comeback victory against Upward Stars York County in a chippy game to show his stuff. Another standout was 5-foot-11 guard Malik Hill, who made a game-winning 3-pointer against Strong Center in their opening game. Hill finished with 15 points in the game to lead all scorers.
Team Curry was another team that finished the weekend undefeated led by guards London Johnson (2023), Bryce Cash Bryce Cash 6'5" | CG Carmel Christian | 2023 State NC , forwards Ta’Korrie Faison Ta’Korrie Faison 6'7" | PF Goldsboro | 2023 State NC , Callum Richard Callum Richard 6'11" | C Gaston Day | 2023 State NC , and Wesley Tubbs III. They did well to share the ball and make easy plays for each other and won convincingly against some top prospects.
Twin Hoops Elite showed off their ability to play an all-around game led by forward Brock Vice in the paint and 5-foot-11 guard Tyler Meade (2023) and Ryan Steger Ryan Steger 6'2" | SG James River (Buchanan) | 2023 State VA on the perimeter. They finished the weekend 2-1 with Vice averaging 15.3 ppg and Meade and Steger combining to make 12 3-pointers across their three contests. They’re a well-coached group that competes on both ends and trusts each other.
Strong Center Hart was another squad with a lot of trust and cohesion on the floor. They were led by the likes of Shaun Kenedy, Aden Taylor Aden Taylor 6'3" | CG Princeton | 2023 State NC , Samuel Martin Samuel Martin 6'9" | C Apex | 2023 State NC and Jake Hart as they finished up 2-1 at Big Shots Nationals. Kenedy was a shifty menace on all three levels that finished with four made 3-pointers on the weekend. Taylor, Hart and Martin were all equally “a force” in their own right so to speak for Strong Center as they faced some tough competition on the weekend. Hart finished with 11.3 ppg and showed off a nice inside-out game.
2024 guard Oliver Roberts of Juice All-Stars NC is one to keep an eye on on the grassroots scene. He’s a 6-foot-3 prospect that can fill it up from deep and create off the bounce. He knocked down eight 3-pointers, tied for 2nd-best in the division at Big Shots Nationals. He competes on both ends and does whatever he can to make his presence felt.
