Flight 22 Elite rises to the occasion
In the 17U division, Flight 22 Elite UA Rise took home the Gold Bracket championship thanks to 22 points from Charlie Miller. Miller, a 6-foot guard, has really come on strong in the past few weekends in the backcourt for Flight 22 alongside Bradlee Haskell Bradlee Haskell 6'2" | CG Pinecrest | 2021 State NC . He made five 3-pointers in the 75-68 victory over Big Shots Elite Tri-Cities Orange. Haskell took home MVP honors in the division after finishing with 16 points on two made 3-pointers.
New Faces Stepping Up in the HoopState
Renegades Elite 2022 – Cryer had a productive weekend at Big Shots Carolina Finale by winning the 16U Gold Championship. 2022 guards Jaxon Brown, Carson Cryer and Dre Prince were a few of the standout prospects for Renegades Elite. Brown put up 18 points, Prince put up 12 points and Cryer put up 10 points in a close 51-48 victory over Team Hoop State. Brown averaged 12.5 ppg on the weekend to pace his squad while Cryer and Prince posted 12.0 ppg.
Deavion Wimbly and Shawn Sheridan were two of the standouts for Team Hoop State. Wimbly is a 6-foot point guard in the 2022 class at South View HS and Sheridan is a 6-foot-4 wing/forward in the 2023 class at Cary Academy. Wimbly made eight 3-pointers on the weekend and Sheridan was behind him with seven.
Kevin Kernan has another strong weekend scoring the ball
Flight 22 Wilmington made another appearance this past weekend on the 16U circuit at Big Shots Carolina Finale and Kevin Kernan was another standout scoring the basketball. Kernan finished third in the division in total points (51) and fourth in scoring average (17.0ppg), showing off his ability to score the ball with consistency once again on all three levels. He’s a 5-foot-11 guard in the 2022 class at Cape Fear Academy that’s slowly making a name for himself on the grassroots scene.
Isaiah Washington Isaiah Washington 6'5" | SG Winston-Salem Christian | 2024 State NC and Treymane Parker Treymane Parker 6'3" | CG OT Elite | 2023 #169 Nation GA becoming quite the backcourt duo
Big Shots Elite NC Lewis was also in action at the Big Shots Carolina Finale and they didn’t disappoint led by a backcourt of Isaiah Washington Isaiah Washington 6'5" | SG Winston-Salem Christian | 2024 State NC and Treymane Parker Treymane Parker 6'3" | CG OT Elite | 2023 #169 Nation GA . Washington averaged 16.7 ppg and Parker put up 15.0 ppg as they both finished in the Top 5 in scoring and total points in the 15U division and took home the Gold Championship over Team Hoop State. They proved to be a formidable force all weekend and continue to take the grassroots scene by storm with their athleticism and skill sets.
The 2024 Class is ripe with talent
The rising freshman class in the HoopState is going to be a very talented and versatile group and right now, there’s a group of prospects that have been putting on a show. Big Shots Elite NC/TLBA Hoops was led to a Gold Championship by Jayden Cross, Amare Bethel and Alex Olander, all members of the 2024 class who showcased their ability to score the ball and play at a high level already. Cross is a 6-foot-2 wing/forward at NW Guilford MS, Bethel is a 6-foot-2 guard at Northwood Temple and Olander is a 6-foot-3 forward at Ravenscroft MS. They’re a young group that’s shown potential already in the state of North Carolina.
