That’s a testament to Co-Directors Michael and Charles Pack and head coach Jameel Rideout Jameel Rideout 6'2" | PG Berkmar | 2022 State GA Sr and the way they conduct their program.
Like most teams, despite not having a ton of live reps under their belt before last weekend’s Showcase of Champions at Suwanee Sports Academy, this versatile and talented group took to the floor and got through a few rough patches on their way to winning their division.
Some standouts:
Malachi Winter (Mt Pisgah Christian, 2022, PG) – Winter took him his team’s MVP on their way to that weekend title, and his assets to his team show in his popularity with his teammates as well as the many things he brings to the floor, A+ athletic ability allows him to be the best defender on the floor nearly every time out, he has an advanced handle with the ball and has great instincts as a floor general, he can finish at the hoop with either hand and likes in particular to get into the painted area and elevate to the rim or draw defenders, he moves to Mt Pisgah from Peachtree Ridge this coming year and will team with JoJo Peterson JoJo Peterson 6'4" | PG Mt. Pisgah | 2021 State GA in a potentially devastating backcourt.
Jameel Rideout Jameel Rideout 6'2" | PG Berkmar | 2022 State GA Jr (South Cobb, 2022, PG) – On an absolutely loaded Eagles roster this past winter, Rideout was a solid contributor but wasn’t necessarily asked to handle the full load at the point, for DT he embraces that role and looked very solid doing it, driving and dishing and handling some pretty good pressure from a stable of strong opponents, the 6-1 Rideout can be a real threat from range and was adept at sliding over to play the 2-spot alongside Winter at times, he can be a real potential riser this coming season combining in an electric backcourt with Zocko Littleton Zocko Littleton 6'2" | SG Osborne | 2022 State #195 Nation GA for a still terrifically loaded South Cobb team.
Robert Dix Robert Dix 6'6" | SF TSF Prep | 2022 State GA (South Cobb, 2022, SF) – Perhaps the true gem of the group from a purely upside scenario is the 6-6 Dix, who as a sophomore like Rideout this past winter was no doubt a big contributor for Coach Gregory Moultrie, but didn’t have to be the star night in and night out, he’ll move closer to that role this year, and what we saw this weekend he has all the skills to do that with an already advanced body – a tough, instinctive finisher, superb shooting range out to the arc, an elite rebounder and position defender, he has all the tantalizing skills to bring in the eyes of big-time coaches and programs and is sure to be on most of their radars this summer, fall and winter.
Thomas Allard (North Gwinnett, 2022, SG) – Among the best pure shooters I got eyes on this past weekend, Allard is the deadeye marksman every opponent dreads when caught focusing too much on the likes of Winter, Rideout and Dix. He slithers his way from spot to spot along the arc, slyly finding openings and utilizing a smooth, quick release, he’ll almost certainly do the same for Coach Matt Garner’s Bulldogs as his role is increased with several key players departing the roster.
Navaughn Maise (Peachtree Ridge, 2021, PF) – The lone 2021 member among this group of eye-catchers, Maise’s game is always noticeable because he does all the things you’d want from a solid all-around 4-man – rebound, defend, absorb tons of contact without batting an eye and use his soft hands to score in close at a high percentage, he doesn’t have to be the #1 option on this club to be effective at both ends, but when he returns to his Lions home gym, he’ll be sure to attract attention from coaches who are looking for a hard worker on the floor and consistent producer.
