AAU Weekend Recap (FREE)
This past weekend was the first where nearly every Kentucky AAU teams traveled out to play games and most were concentrated in Indianapolis or Fort Wayne, Indiana. Here’s a quick look at the team performances for the weekend. If your coach or director didn’t send results, then nothing was printed.
17u Teams:
The Kentucky Defenders went 1-2 in Prep Hoops Havoc in the Heartland, losing in the Semifinals of the Hustle Bracket. Blake Robinson Blake Robinson 6'2" | SF Holy Cross Covington Ku | 2021 State KY of Holy Cross and Parker Fields Parker Fields 6'2" | PF Boone County | 2021 State KY of Boone County stood out for the Defenders.
Kentucky Vision went 2-2 at the All In Hoopfest. Jaz Johnson Jaz Johnson 6'2" | SG Wolfe County | 2021 State KY of Wolfe County and Josh McGuire Josh McGuire 6'6" | PF Knott County Central | 2021 State KY of Knott County Central had strong weekends for the Vision.
Fredonia Elite was back at Cape Girardeau, Missouri where they went 3-2 and finished in 3rd place. Caleb Oliver of Graves County and Preston Morgeson of Crittenden County had 20+ point games on the weekend while Gabe Mott and Preston Turley had strong weekends again.
Kentucky Select went 2-2 at the All In Hoopfest. Jacob Deere of Cooper did a little bit of everything, nearly averaging a double-double for the weekend. Quantez Calloway of Holmes did average a double-double over the weekend and had a strong showing.
Kentucky Supreme went 2-2 at the MYT Best of the Midwest in Bloomington. Owensboro’s Amari Wales averaged 15, 5 and 5 over the course of the event while Butler’s Mershon Dickerson averaged 13 and 6.
Griffin Elite went 4-1 and won the Silver Championship of the Circle City Shootout. DeAjuan Stepp DeAjuan Stepp 6'5" | SF West Jessamine | 2021 State KY of West Jessamine had multiple double figure scoring games while Jeremiah Belton Jeremiah Belton 5'10" | PG LaRue County | 2021 State KY had a great weekend all around.
Pride Athletics’ Zion Thomas Zion Thomas 6'1" | SG East Jessamine | 2021 State KY had averages of 10/7/7 while playing great defense all weekend. Keian Worrix Keian Worrix 5'7" | PG Shelby Valley | 2022 State KY of Shelby Valley averaged 8 points, 8 assists and 3 steals per game for the tournament while Pride went 3-1 on the weekend.
16u Teams:
Kentucky Select went 2-2 at the All In Hoopfest. Brant Smithers Brant Smithers 6'1" | CG Walton-Verona | 2022 State KY carried the scoring load for them all weekend while Lloyd Memorial’s Ryan Davis rebounded very well and finished through contact at the rim all weekend long.
Kentucky Future Elite finished 2-2 at the Indy Hoopfest. Daniel Waters of West Jessamine, Jaden Green of Frederick Douglass and Kanye Henderson Kanye Henderson 6'3" | SG Henry Clay | 2022 State KY of Henry Clay all starred for Elite.
Griffin Elite 16u won the Gold Bracket of the Circle City Shootout, going 5-0. Darien Lewis Darien Lewis 6'1" | PG Fern Creek | 2022 State KY had a weekend high 26 points in one game while Bryce Riley Bryce Riley 6'5" | SF Bardstown | 2022 State KY put up 20 in the championship game.
Pride Athletics went 2-2, losing in the semifinals of the Gold Bracket. Nate Mitchell of Mason County averaged 12 points and 5 assists while Clay Sizemore of North Laurel scored 23 on Sunday, hitting 7 threes for the game. 2024 Bailey Thacker of Raceland averaged 8/8/5 while playing up two age groups.
15u Teams:
Quinn Anvils won the Platinum Division at the All In Hoopfest for the 3rd year in a row. Brady Hurley of Manual had 35 point and 26 point double doubles, Zee McCown of PRP scored 21 while recording a triple double and Trinity’s Greg Cole had games of 30 and 27.
Scott’s Nolan Hunter had a good weekend for Kentucky Select 15u and showed continued improvement as he battled for boards and showed he can shoot out to mid range. Highlands’ Seth Ryan was good getting to the rim and finding open teammates.
Kentucky Future Elite went 3-1 at the Indy Hoopfest. Barek Williams of Pulaski County scored 23, 20 and 30 in 3 games.
Teagan Moore (Owen County), Landen Hamilton (Conner) and Caleb Brooks (Cooper) all play for Ohio Champion Club and went 3-1 at the Midwest Circuit. Moore averaged 10 points and 6 rebounds per game, Hamilton 16 points and 4 assists and Brooks with 8 points and 4 rebounds per game.
14u Teams:
Team Breakdown Kentucky went 4-0 on the Midwest Circuit. Max Gainey, Ty Price, Jasper Johnson and Trey Gillett starred for Breakdown in their undefeated weekend.They won all 4 games by double figures.
