I wrote about top performers after Saturday and Sunday’s packed slate and now it is time to look at some steady post players in the 17U division.
Keshawn Murphy Keshawn Murphy 6'10" | SF Ramsay | 2021 State #152 Nation AL | 6-10 | Alabama Celtics
Any Division I program in need of a true big man can look right at Keshawn Murphy Keshawn Murphy 6'10" | SF Ramsay | 2021 State #152 Nation AL . The 6-10 Ramsay center came to play this weekend after de-committing from Western Kentucky on Friday. Vocal in every game, he had 18 points in a win over X-Factor and 12 points in the final against Team Speights. Murphy uses his quick feet and inside skillset to hurt defenses. When he finds an opening, he’s always looking to slam it home and he razzled the crowd with reverse dunks, one-handed punches and alley-oops (see at the bottom of the story). He’s very versatile for his size.
JaHeim Robinson JaHeim Robinson 6'5" | PF Johnson-Savannah | 2021 State GA | 6-6 | Atlanta Celtics South
Showing his skill as a point forward, it is rare to see a player that strong and built like a football player do the things that JaHeim Robinson JaHeim Robinson 6'5" | PF Johnson-Savannah | 2021 State GA does on the basketball court. The Johnson-Savannah forward doubles as a dominant point man and it showed all weekend long in Georgia (VIDEO). In a Sunday win over Rod Howard Select, he led his squad with 21 points and showed he will fight on the boards all game long. There isn’t much not to like about Robinson as he came to play in all four games this weekend. Colleges need to get him right now.
Pete Laidley Pete Laidley 6'6" | PF Pembroke Pines | 2021 State FL | 6-7 | Team Work
The size and demeanor inside is fun to watch with Pete Laidley Pete Laidley 6'6" | PF Pembroke Pines | 2021 State FL . The Pembroke Pines Charter forward is maturing before our eyes. As he becomes more aggressive and stronger, his stock will take off. He has impressive length and footwork and it showed with a 14-point outing in a win over Atlanta Select on Sunday in a victory. LaSalle, Barry and Castleton all offered in mid-March right after the Florida state tournament. Laidley is a prospect to keep a close eye on.
Michael Phillips Michael Phillips 6'3" | PF Surge Christian | 2021 FL | 6-8 | Team Speights
Any college program looking for smarts on and off the court and hard work/energy every second on the floor, take a peek at Michael Phillips Michael Phillips 6'3" | PF Surge Christian | 2021 FL . The 2021 Team Speights forward is headed for a post grad year and has been rock solid for a few seasons. Watching Phillips clean up misses, fight for boards and put away dunks and mid-range shots is a pleasure. He is always mixing it up on both ends of the floor and his strength and willingness to scrap give him a ton of value for any colleges looking for someone at his size.
Justice Asante | 6-6 | Rod Howard Select
There was plenty of power and instincts seen from Vance forward Justice Asante this weekend for Rod Howard Select. On a hard-nosed group, he was getting inside and slashing quite a bit. His frame suits well for the next level since he is certainly not skinny and his motor is non-stop. Asante is a prospect who will make a program better instantly.
Kareem Grant | 6-6 | SPSA Runs
Holding offers for football as a tight end, Lakewood athlete Kareem Grant flashed his abilities on the hardwood for SPSA Runs this weekend. The Lakewood forward had a big one-handed dunk in transition (VIDEO). He capped off the weekend with a steady 13-point game in a win over the Auburn Raptors. A big body, Grant takes chances and fights for his buckets. He will certainly take the football route and rightfully so, but his basketball game shows just how good of an athlete he is at his frame.
