Here’s a quick update of all the top players in the class who have already received offers and where they currently stand in their college recruitment.
Nathan Bittle Nathan Bittle 6'11" | C Prolific Prep | 2021 State #20 Nation CA-N , Crater (Ranked #1)
Offers: Arizona, California, Cincinnati, Georgia Tech, Gonzaga, Oregon, Oregon State, UCLA, USC, Wake Forest
Analysis: While Bittle has generated interest nationally, the biggest push seems to be from the West Coast schools – and rightfully so. The 6-foot-11 rising senior has taken three official visits to Arizona, UCLA, and Gonzaga, and has made a number of unofficial visits notably to Oregon. Bittle and his family have largely kept his recruitment close to the vest and are staying open to all options, including the possibility of other schools – notably the so-called “Blue Bloods” – entering into the mix.
Ben Gregg Ben Gregg 6'8" | SF Clackamas | 2021 #50 Nation OR , Clackamas (#2)
Offers: Arizona, California, Oregon, Oregon State, USC, Texas Tech, Virginia Tech
Analysis: Things had seemed relatively steady with Gregg and his recruitment until about a month ago when Virginia Tech and Arizona jumped into the fray with offers via Zoom. Until then, the regulars in touch with the 6-foot-8 forward were Cal, Oregon, Oregon State (where he’s made his only official visit so far), and USC out of those who have offered and he’s also heard from Indiana, St. Mary’s, and Virginia. While Gonzaga was the early favorite and they remain in contact, it appears that Gregg is keeping all options open at this point.
Nathan Rawlins-Kibonge Nathan Rawlins-Kibonge 6'7" | PF Jefferson | 2021 #228 Nation OR , Jefferson (#3)
Offers: Washington State (verbal)
Analysis: Rawlins-Kibonge was the first member of the Class of 2021 to commit when he made a pledge to the Cougars last summer. Since then, to say a lot for the 6-foot-7 post has happened would be quite the understatement. After playing football for the very first time, Rawlins-Kibonge now holds football scholarship offers from a whole host of FBS programs including Miami (FL), Oklahoma, USC, Cal, Arizona State, Colorado, and Stanford. He maintains he’s committed to Washington State for hoops – the Cougars have also offered for football – but it appears football will be the route and nothing will be said and done with his college recruitment for some time.
Kamron Robinson Kamron Robinson 6'8" | C Jefferson | 2020 NV , Jefferson (#4)
Offers: Montana, Pacific
Analysis: Robinson continues to hold the offers he earned from Montana and Pacific from last summer and he also made his first official visit to Montana in the fall. Since then it’s been relatively quiet for the 6-foot-8 post. Robinson put together a solid season, averaging 13.5 points and 6.4 rebounds while shooting almost 62 percent from the field, but also showed that he could maintain the hard work he had put into his conditioning and getting into better shape. It will be interesting to see if any more interest picks up when schools hopefully get a look at him in the fall and he very well may be a late signee.
Drew Carter Drew Carter 6'3" | SG Tigard | 2021 OR , Tigard (#5)
Offers: Portland State, UC San Diego
Analysis: Carter, who already had an offer from hometown Portland State, really turned it on his junior year and ended up finishing the year as the state’s second-leading scorer at 24.4 ppg. That helped him earn another hoops scholarship offer this spring from Cal Baptist, but the bigger story recruiting-wise may be how his stock has risen on the football field. The dual-threat QB now holds football offers from Boise State, Colorado, Fresno State, Montana State, New Mexico, and Utah State and while he’s keeping all options open, it appears his route to college may be via the gridiron.
Darius Gakwasi Darius Gakwasi 6'5" | SG Central Catholic | 2021 State OR , Central Catholic (#6)
Offers: Portland
Analysis: Gakwasi has held the offer from the Pilots for quite some time now and while it’s been reported that in-town Portland State has also offered, we have not been able to confirm that as of yet. Needless to say, the Vikings have shown interest as have many others including Oregon State, Montana, Montana State, Princeton, Santa Clara, and Stanford. The 6-foot-5 wing is skilled and versatile, shoots it well and has a high-academic resume.
Trace Salton Trace Salton 6'5" | SF Lake Oswego | 2021 State OR , Lake Oswego (#7)
Offers: UC Riverside, St. Martin’s
Analysis: Salton, who already held a D-II offer from St. Martin’s, was the latest member from Oregon’s Class of 2021 to pick up a Division I offer when UC Riverside stepped into the picture in April. The 6-foot-5 rising senior grew up as a post but has been developing and honing more perimter skills, which combined with his rock-solid build, make him a matchup nightmare. Whenever club basketball gets going again, Salton will no doubt be a player schools will be watching.
Jonah Zeller Jonah Zeller 6'9" | C Catlin Gabel | 2021 State OR , Catlin Gabel (#27)
Offers: Concordia-St. Paul
Analysis: Zeller is the only member of the Class of 2021 to currently hold a scholarship offer as the 6-foot-9 post recently received his very first one from Division II member Concordia-St. Paul. The rising senior continues to develop as a post prospect but has a very nice face-up jumper that he can hit out past the elbow. He’s very dominant at the 3A level so this next run on the AAU circuit will be a good chance to show his stuff against more guys his size.
