Then there are those that can run a team and control the tempo. We can also classify some that have the ability to make those around them better. With a lot of layers that make a PG great, when it comes to the next level sometimes the thing that matters the most is fit.
Scoring the most points doesn’t always equate to fit. Here is a list of PG’s that could fit the right program at the next level.
The Scorers
Talon Valdes Talon Valdes 6'0" | PG Juan Diego | 2021 State UT (Juan Diego)
When it comes to scoring Talon is one of the best out there. He also does it all while not relying on his ability to shoot the 3-ball. Talon can get out in front of the pack in a hurry. He also relishes in an up and down style. He can really convert in a high percentage when it comes to the mid-range. Look fo rhim to be up with the top scorers in the state next year.
Elijah Tolbert Elijah Tolbert 6'2" | PG Highland | 2022 State UT (Highland)
Elijah took a big step when it came to scoring last season as a sophomore. He has the freedom this up coming year to make an even bigger push when it comes to scoring the basket. Look fo rhim to be around the 17+ points a game as he can really beat people off the dribble with his moves and sharp cuts and change of direction. He has also turned into a quality shooter on kick-outs.
The Floor General
Coleman Ford Coleman Ford 5'10" | PG Timpview | 2021 State UT (Timpview)
Coleman can really run a team. He can score and he is quick off the dribble. He is a player that is difficult to keep in front. He is also shooting the ball better every year. Coleman can really get his teammates in the right positions and be a true extention of the coach on the floor as most point guards strive to be.
Both Ends of the Floor
Cannon Devries Cannon Devries 6'0" | PG Weber | 2022 State UT (Weber)
When it comes to players that excel at both ends of the floor Cannon is the guy. He can pick up any player regardless of skill the entire 95 feet and bother them and stay in-front the entire time. He is usually the fastest player on the floor but he has control. He can control tempo with the ball running an offense or control the tempo with his elite defense. The kid can score off of on ball and off ball steals but also with his shooting and ability to score at all three levels.
The Facilitators/Creator
Jordan Ross Jordan Ross 6'3" | PG Link Academy | 2023 #132 Nation MO (Pleasant Grove)
Jordan has a smooth game that excels in a creative freedom type system. He makes elite reads and can thread the needle with his passing. He is fun t watch as he sizes up defenders and keeps them guessing when it comes to the moves he makes. Can shoot the long ball and we have seen him improve his range as he is stepping out further.
Jordan Toscano Jordan Toscano 6'1" | PG Bingham | 2021 State UT (Bingham)
Jordan can really read defenses and take that extra dribble to get his teammates open or step back and access to make the best decision. He can run in an uptempo style or slow it down. Can handle pressure form elite defenders the full length of the floor. Impressed with his ability to know when to take it to the basket and create for others or for himself.
The Shooters
Kobe Schriver (Roy)
When it comes to point guards that can shoot Kobe is at the top of the list. He really makes defending the pick n’ roll difficult because he is crafty and compact with precise ball handling that also allows him to free himself up for open shots. He catches the ball in the triple-threat pocket to keep defenses honest.
The Complete Package
Collin Chandler Collin Chandler 6'5" | CG Farmington | 2022 State #28 Nation UT (Farmington)
Collin is making a transition as he turns his off guard skill to on the ball skill. He is already a true CG but his creativity with the ball and different finishing moves at the basket have already turned a lot of heads. He has improved his shooting in such a short period of time. He has a great and still developing 15-foot pull-up game. He will explode when attacking many times resulting in a dunk. Collin’s vision is improving and his timing on passing is too. This kid is the complete package especially at 6’4.
Noa Gonsalves Noa Gonsalves 6'2" | PG Lehi | 2021 State UT (Lehi)
This kid is electric. He is sharp when it comes to angles. He can really pull up from deep and find ways to make it to the basket. Often times he doesn’t need the ball in his hands to make an impact on the game as he is patient and waits for the offense to come to him. He can score at all three levels and his creativity is fun to watch. Great decision maker in the open floor and he makes those around him better.
