1. Emoni Bates (Lincoln High School): Even being a year younger than guys like Kobe Bufkin Kobe Bufkin 6'4" | SG Grand Rapids Christian | 2021 State #71 Nation MI , Pierre Brooks Pierre Brooks 6'5" | SG Detroit Douglass | 2021 State #76 Nation MI , and Julian Roper Julian Roper 6'4" | PG St. Mary's Prep | 2021 State #137 Nation MI , it’s clear that the 6’8 small forward is the best player in the state (by a pretty wide margin). He averaged an incredible 33.1 points, 9.1 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game en route to winning Gatorade National Player of the Year.
2. Kobe Bufkin Kobe Bufkin 6'4" | SG Grand Rapids Christian | 2021 State #71 Nation MI (Grand Rapids Christian High School): The top senior-to-be in the state of Michigan comes in just behind Bates. The 6’4 lefty shooting guard is great in transition, shoots consistently from the perimeter, and has potential to be a really dangerous defender. He has offers from DePaul, Michigan, Michigan State, Missouri, Northwestern, and others.
3. Pierre Brooks Pierre Brooks 6'5" | SG Detroit Douglass | 2021 State #76 Nation MI (Detroit Douglass High School): Brooks is a more physically dominant player than Bufkin but I prefer the Grand Rapids product mainly because of his ability to play both backcourt positions. With that said, though, the 6’5 forward might have even more upside. Brooks committed to Michigan State on April 22, 2020.
4. Jaden Akins Jaden Akins 6'3" | PG Ypsi Prep | 2021 #87 Nation KS (Farmington High School): Akins is the third ranked senior in the state and has compiled scholarship offers from Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Missouri, Xavier, and more. The 6’3 point guard likes to float to his right on his pull-up jumper, takes and makes a ton of tough shots, and is a willing and intelligent playmaker.
5. Julian Roper Julian Roper 6'4" | PG St. Mary's Prep | 2021 State #137 Nation MI (St. Mary’s Prep): Roper rounds out the top five as the 6’4 point guard is one of the most explosive and exciting players to watch in the class of 2021. He can score from the inside and outside, has improved his passing in recent years, and has a ton of bounce. Roper committed to Northwestern over Alabama, DePaul, Illinois, Wisconsin, and others.
6. Julian Lewis Julian Lewis 6'5" | SG Ann Arbor Huron | 2021 State MI (Huron High School): Lewis is the 7th ranked senior-to-be in the state and will have a chance to rise into the top five by season’s end. The 6’5 shooting guard will look to help the River Rats compete for a state championship after having this year cut short. Lewis has offers from Eastern Michigan, Illinois-Chicago, Rice, Toledo, Western Michigan, and more.
7. Ty Rodgers Ty Rodgers 6'6" | SF Grand Blanc | 2022 #34 Nation IN (Grand Blanc High School): After five consecutive senior players, Rodgers becomes the second junior-to-be on this list. He has received scholarship offers from Florida State, Houston, Marquette, Michigan, Michigan State, and others. The 6’6 forward is a really good rebounder, finishes well at the rim, and has improved his passing lately.
8. Owen Lobsinger Owen Lobsinger 6'5" | SF Flint Powers | 2021 State MI (Flint Powers High School): Lobsinger is a 6’5 small forward out of Flint who has shown a lot of improvement in the last year. He can rebound and push the ball himself, shoot consistently from mid-range, and rebound with players taller than him. Click here to check out some of Lobsinger’s highlights from a summer workout.
9. Sonny Wilson Sonny Wilson 6'0" | PG UD Jesuit | 2023 State #189 Nation MI (Detroit Jesuit): Wilson is the only sophomore-to-be on this list and is the #1 ranked player in his class. I think he needs to improve his ball security, consistency, and defense, but Wilson is an elite outside shooter, has a quick crossover, and can push the ball in transition. I can see him being one of the best players in the Midwest in a couple of years.
10. Fletcher Loyer (Clarkston High School): Loyer is the younger brother of backup Michigan State point guard Foster Loyer and the 6’2 point guard has extremely deep range, can catch and shoot from anywhere on the floor, and likes to pass with either hand. He has offers from Denver, Detroit, Michigan, Nebraska, Purdue, and others.
