Continue ReadingEarlier in the week we talked about some of Florida’s top-notch student athletes, with an emphasis on student. Today we continue with that theme taking a look at some more future doctors, engineers, and business leaders of America. In addition to being talented athletes these are some guys whose grades will make them eligible for a majority of colleges and universities around the country.
PF Kenny Turner Kenny Turner 6'6" | PF St. Andrew's | 2021 State FL II 6-7 215 (2021) St. Andrews (Boca Raton)
GPA: 3.85 Desired Major: Sport Management
With modest numbers of 4.2 points and 3.7 rebounds per game, a college coach may not understand the true value of Turner as a prospect. On a class 3A state championship team that started Yale bound big man, Yussif Basa-Ama Yussif Basa-Ama 6'9" | PF St. Andrews | 2020 State #264 Nation FL and high major prospect Josh Minott Josh Minott 6'9" | PF St. Andrew's | 2021 State #30 Nation FL , Kenny thrived in the enforcer roll off the bench. Frequently assigned to guard the biggest, most physical player on the opposing team, Turner never backed down from a challenge. As Turner continues to polish his offensive game over the summer, do not be surprised to see him average close to double-double numbers next season!
SG Josh Mims Josh Mims 6'1" | CG Melbourne Central Catholic | 2021 State FL 6-2 170 (2021) Melbourne
GPA: 3.9 ACT: 30 Desired Major: undecided
It doesn’t matter whether or not your hand is down, if Mims is feeling it, the ball is going through the hoop. Starting just about every game since his freshmen year, it’s not hard to tell that Josh is a college coach’s son. Seemingly never out of place, and an excellent post feeder, Mims gets just as much satisfaction from an assist as he does sinking a 3-pointer. With numbers of 9 points and 2.8 assists per game, Josh is focusing on improving as a rebounder and expanding his game on offense this off-season. Look for Melbourne to improve from their 17-11 record last season, and Mims to continue to prove himself as one of the states top 3-point marksmen.
SF Ammir Thomas 6-4 200 (2021) University (Orlando)
GPA: 3.9 SAT: 1340 Desired Major: Economics/Political science
An above average athlete with a 6-7 wingspan, Thomas has excellent potential as a defender at the college level. This past season for University, Thomas was a one man 2-3 zone breaker as he was automatic from the free throw line. With a sturdy build, Ammir did an excellent job of posting up smaller guards, either bullying his way to the basket or passing to open cutters. With numbers of 8.3 points and 5.2 rebounds per night on a well-balanced team, Thomas looks to prove that he can hit three pointers at higher rate as a senior.
PG/SG Spencer Rose 6-0 150 (2021) Oviedo
GPA: 4.1 Desired Major: Physical Therapy/Sport Medicine
If twin telepathy is a real thing, Spencer and his brother Jacob (included in Part3) are a prime example. A blur on the court these brothers know exactly where each other is going to be, and when. Last season as the sixth man Spencer showed Orlando what he was capable of posting a stat line of 11 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists against perennial power Dr. Phillips. Competitive by nature these brothers will continue to push each other in the weight room this offseason.
SF/PF David Fitzgerald David Fitzgerald 6'3" | CG Bayshore Christian | 2020 State FL 6-4 180 (2021) Central Pointe Christian (Orlando)
GPA: 3.6 Desired Major: Engineering/Business
After leading Bayshore Christian to the state semi finals as a senior, Fitzgerald decided to take a post graduate year at Central Pointe Christian. In his last game as a high school player David posted 21 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists against Orlando Christian, a team littered with division one prospects. As a post grad Fitzgerald plans on improving his 3 point game and getting stronger.
