You might not be able to find their hometown on a map, but that hasn’t stopped them from making a name for themselves and now jumping onto our radars. Next up, we have 2A wings from the 2021 class to keep an eye on.
Colby Roberts – Swallows Charter Academy
I have honestly never even heard of Swallows Charter. This year was not a stellar year for them, but when taking a look at some of the pieces that they have, the future remains bright for them. One of their best players this season was 6’2 wing Roberts. Roberts was a consistent scorer and got it done in various ways. Roberts didn’t take a ton of 3-pointers, but when he did, he made them, he got to his spots on the floor and attacked the paint and also was a force on the boards and turned that into points. Roberts put up 14.1 points and 4.1 rebounds and also was the team’s best perimeter defender. He averaged three steals a game, and while he only appeared in 16 games this year, he can build on the season as the Spartans will need him at his best.
Ben McCurdy – Colorado Springs School
Well, at least you do not have to guess where this school is located, but that does not mean that many have heard about it. The Kodiaks were a middle of the pack team that played extremely hard. A scrappy bunch that was led by 6’2 wing Ben McCurdy who did it all for Colorado Springs. McCurdy averaged an impressive 12.9 points and 8.0 rebounds a game. He was lethal with the ball in his hands and outworked defenders on the boards for plenty of second-chance opportunities. Next year it will be about turning those stats into wins.
Kory Tacha – Limon
Tacha is one of the very best athletes in the entire state that not many know about, but he is the real deal. Tacha is a player that will certainly be playing at the next level, which sport becomes the mystery. Tacha led Limon to a 1A state championship in football and was named the 1A player of the year. He transferred over to the hardwood and had success as well as he helped lead Limon to a deep run in the 2A state playoffs. The 6’1 combo-guard/wing found a groove and remained there as he put up 14.4 points a game and also rebounded extremely well snagging 5.5 boards a game. Tacha consistently knocked down the 3-ball as he hit 64 3-pointers on the season and also was a force on the defensive end. Highly anticipated year for Tacha in multiple sports and one that we are paying attention to now.
Liam Frentress – Hayden
Hayden, Colorado is certainly not a place that I have heard of. Wouldn’t be able to find it on any maps, and for the basketball team, they are coming off of a season that they want to forget. While they did not win many games, there was a bright spot for the Tigers. Frentress was the leading scorer on a young bunch that is poised to do some big things next season. The team was all underclassmen and one senior, so next season is crucial. Fretress finished with the majority of his baskets coming at the rim. He put up 12.1 points, 3.0 assists, and 7.5 rebounds. He will have to extend the defense a bit more with his outside shot but is aggressive and can get it done.
Bridgen Parker – Holly
Holly was one of the best teams in 2A last season. They finished with a 19-5 overall record and had only one loss in their division. Their best player was the 6’3 wing Brigden Parker Brigden Parker 6'1" | PF Eads | 2021 State CO who brought it a game in and game out, and despite being the focal point of opposing teams was able to still get what he wanted in the paint. Parker averaged 12.0 points, and seven rebounds a game. The Wildcats tragically lost the season and now add fuel to the fire. If Parker can up his game, they will look like favorites in 2A.
