You might not be able to find their hometown on a map, but that hasn’t stopped them from making a name for themselves and now jumping onto our radars. Next up, we have 2A bigs from the 2021 class to keep an eye on.
Sydney Cole – Rangely
Rangely is looking to have a bounceback year after finishing off the year with a 7-15 record. While they did not play as good as they expected to, they can be excited for next season as their big man had himself quite the year to build on. Sydney Cole put up a massive stat line of 12.9 points, and 9.8 rebounds a game as he got close to a double-double and also made sure to patrol and protect the paint as best as he could with 1.5 blocks to go along with it. Cole had a couple of explosive games like when he went for 25 points and 22 rebounds. He will need more of it if he plans on turning things around over there, but if they run through him, they are in good shape.
Blake Boulter – Gilpin County
Gilpin County was a team that got their numbers. Multiple players on the team had significant numbers and others that went against them. They will have to get it done on both ends of the floor if they plan on turning things around. Their big man played well above his size as he was the team’s best player. In his junior season, Boulter put up 11.4 points, and 9.4 rebounds a game. He played hard, boxed out well, and gave his team extra scoring opportunities. Now it has to come with the wins.
Bowen Tolle – Highland
Highland was good; I mean scary good last season. They had two of the top guards in the state in the backcourt, but the man in the middle was another reason that they only had a single loss on the season. Tolle was a man amongst boys last season as he used all of his 6’5 frame to put up 14.8 points and 8.4 boards a game. It was a bit confusing how this glass cleaner didn’t make an All-State team even as an honorable mention. Would you look at that, a 2A snub?
Nolan Llnberg – Gilpin County
Gilpin County did not win many games this year, but they surely had a few entertaining players. The man in the middle was Llnberg, who was a 6’5 paint beast. He scored in the paint, grabbed every board that came his way, and played with 100% effort. Llnberg averaged 10.6 ppg, 8.1 rebounds, and 2.6 blocks a game and patrolled the paint at every opportunity. If his team can pull it together and he continues to put up big numbers, they are a team that will rise next year.
Henry Vandenberg – Denver Christian
Denver Christian had a pretty solid season last year. They went 18-6 on the sean and 10-2 in their conference. They were a team that played a couple of 3A teams that we have heard of and showed that they are willing to battle no matter who it is that they are up against. One of their best competitors was their 6’2 big man Vandenberg. Vandenberg might not be big in stature, but there are not many in the conference that is willing to battle on every possession as he does. Last season he put up 11.8 points and seven boards a game, which mostly came from putbacks and second-chance opportunities. He will look to build on that this season.
