As a senior at Poly, the 6-foot-5 guard put his name on the map and attracted almost a dozen high major programs. He was scheduled to embark on his first official visit to Ole Miss, but the pandemic put an end to his official visit tour before it could even begin. Still, Murray narrowed down his college decision between five schools including DePaul, East Tennessee St., Georgetown, Georgia and Rhode Island.
Before long, Murray started hinting toward taking a post-grad prep year not only so he could improve his game, but also in hopes to build a better relationship with schools and eventually visit officially. It’s uncertain what kind of season there will be for 2020-21, but Murray will be a big piece for IMG Academy’s post-grad prep squad.
“I’ve been establishing a good relationship with Coach [Chad] Myers,” Murray continued, “basically he’s been saying that me and Lynn Greer are going to be the 1-2 punch and will have to take over the backcourt. He sees me excelling and getting more offers and just being focused on being in the best condition I can be.”
The majority of the schools that were on Murray prior to his decision to reclass are still actively recruiting him. Rhode Island made it known to him that their offer still stands and as for East Tennesee St. with the coaching staff moving to Wake Forest, they’ll be strong suitors for Murray going forward as well.
However other programs are starting to get involved with Murray who weren’t previously in the picture. South Florida offered earlier this week and others such as Baylor and Tennessee have been making up ground in establishing a relationship.
If there is a high school season this year, I expect Baylor, Tennesee and others to get in the running for Murray. He has a college-ready body at 6-foot-5 with elite athleticism and ability to shoot efficiently from three.
