With players, coaches and fans anxious to get back in the gym this summer, Prep Hoops Kansas takes a look at several underrated guards in the ’22 class who may hit the hardwood this summer.
Brady Deges, G, 2022, South Gray
A quick guard who runs the floor well and can force turnovers and score in transition. Deges has good in-game speed and can handle the opposing team’s best ball handler. He can make plays with the ball in his hands and looks to pass ahead to his teammates and score whenever he has an open shot regardless of where he is.
Avery Gatzemeyer, G, 2022, Valley Falls
A smart point guard who has good vision and looks to include his teammates. Gatzemeyer gets up the floor quickly and can get through the opposing team’s presses and score. He makes plays as a defender as well and stays with the ball and can collapse and is good at forcing traps.
Xander Newberry, 6’0, G, 2022, Attica
The lead returning scorer from a season ago, Newberry is a nice athlete who can score, rebound and make plays off the ball. Also a standout on the football field, Newberry showcases a nice combination of speed, toughness and shows good vision and an ability to score at will. He runs the floor and makes plays. Last season he averaged 11.3 points, 2.4 assists, 3.5 rebounds and .6 steals per game.
Scott Price Scott Price 5'9" | PG Bucklin | 2022 State KS , 5’9, G, 2022, Bucklin
A scoring option for Bucklin who has good speed and good range. He’s a good ball handler and can create opening and looks to attack the basket. He also can knock down shots from several feet behind the 3-point line and moves well and looks to come off screens and lose his defender in the mix of things.
Damon Redeker, 2022, Olpe
An all-around player who can make plays inside the paint and around the perimeter. An all area player who was extremely consistent in a variety of ways and showed the ability to score and distribute but also looked to play physical and rebound and forced turnovers. Redeker was a standout for Olpe who led by example. He averaged 13 points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals per game.
