The lanky 6-foot-9, 195-pound forward spent his freshman year in Portland at Benson Tech but then moved to Alabama for his second year of high school. He’s spending this summer/fall playing club ball with International elite after returning to the Rose City this past season at Columbia Christian.
“Coming back to Oregon, it was great coming back to Columbia (Christian) and playing in a different position than I’m used to and expanding my game,” Andre-Covington said. “We had a great season and in state we landed in third place. We didn’t have that chemistry in the beginning but toward the end we molded together and started playing like a team. We had a great time.”
Growing up as typically one of the tallest guys on the team, Andre-Covington has often had to play in the post out of necessity. With Columbia Christian, with seven-footer Mo Hartwich Mo Hartwich 7'0" | C Portland Christian | 2021 State OR manning the paint, the rising senior was able to step outside and he appreciated the opportunity.
“Individually I developed my jumpshot,” Andre-Covington said. “Also, my ball-handling because I was playing out on the perimeter. So I had to develop those if I wanted to be a wing player and play at the next level.”
So far in the off-season, Andre-Covington has continued to focus on his ball-handling and shooting off of the dribble. He’s also worked on his conditioning but running during quarantine. He’s lacing it up with International Elite hoping to continue capturing the attention of college coaches. Andre-Covington indicated that schools like Eastern Washington, Oklahoma, Tulane, and Montana State have been in touch and he’s keeping his ears open to all options.
“I’m just mainly looking forward to seeing how I fit in the best with a program,” Andre-Covington said. “I’m usually the tallest player but I like to play all-around and not just forced into the post.”
With International Elite, he’ll once again get to spent a good amount of time on the perimeter as the squad features big man Jonah Zeller Jonah Zeller 6'9" | C Catlin Gabel | 2021 State OR manning the paint. He’s an intriguing prospect because of his length and athleticism and his potential as a perimeter player. Andre-Covington is excited about the possibilities that lie ahead.
“My goal is to better myself even more and expand my game,” Andre-Covington said. “Play against great competition and hopefully get an offer from some schools.”
