There were 10 teams of 10 players on each team and each team played 3 games after a series of drills and warm-ups.
Here were some of the 2021 standouts not mentioned already:
Tyrone Washington Tyrone Washington 6'4" | PG AZ Compass Prep | 2021 State #33 Nation AZ (AZ Compass Prep)
-Basketball has just been easy for him this past month. He shoots it with range and can play above the rim. He gets into the lane with his strength, big body, tight handle and burst. Finishes off tough layups or will find a teammate. He has real court vision and elite skill level showing off his top-50 status in the country.
Kiran Oliver Kiran Oliver 6'4" | SG Phhoenix Prep | 2021 State AZ (Phhoenix Prep)
-One of the more impressive athletes on the West Coast. A quick-twitch highlight reel athlete who likes to defend. He also keeps polishing up his jumper. He gets high elevation on his shot off the dribble from mid-range. He is an out of area shot blocker and rebounder and can rip off opposing ball handlers to collect steals. A fun player to view.
Jalen Scott Jalen Scott 6'3" | PG Paradise Honors | 2021 State AZ (Paradise Honors)
-The old school pure PG is a rare thing these days and Scott is just that. He is the best passer and advanced passer in the state. The ball gets out of his hands like Lonzo Ball used to do back in the day. He gets downhill well and is usually looking to make a play for someone once he touches the paint. His athleticism has taken off in the last year and is playing way above the rim. He is becoming a better shooter from the 3 but can keep making strides. He can pull-up off the dribble and he gets his hands on a lot of balls to fill a stat sheet.
Brett Hardt Jr Brett Hardt Jr 6'4" | PG Phhoenix Prep | 2021 State AZ (Phhoenix Prep)
-A big improvement from Hardt Jr keeps taking place. His natural feel for the game is extremely high and he can hit shots from mid to the 3pt line. He has more of a swagger and takes more control of a team. He can push the ball with a tighter handle and has good court vision. He plays smartly off of the pick and roll and makes the correct play off of it. His pull-up is more polished and he has grown an inch or so plus has become stronger. He has good length and plays smart position basketball on defense. In the next year it will be all about strength for him to get ready for the D1 game.
Matur Dhal Matur Dhal 6'10" | C Phhoenix Prep | 2021 State AZ (Phhoenix Prep)
-He is slowly becoming a more versatile scorer. He used to rely too heavily on shooting open perimeter shots but is now working more inside. He plays well off the pick and roll and moves fluidly and can finish off dunks or layups in traffic with good hands. He blocks shots and rebounds well in his area. He can get stronger in the next year but he does have the ability to hit the 3 which makes him more attractive.
Ricardo Sarmiento Ricardo Sarmiento 5'11" | PG Phhoenix Prep | 2021 State AZ (Phhoenix Prep) (Pictured)
-It will be hard to find a tougher guard than Sarmiento. He has a nasty pull-up from mid-range and is a tough on-ball defender. He passes the ball well with good court vision and always seems to be in the middle of a play showing his high motor. He is a natural leader yelling out to his teammates and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him become a future coach.
Jason Kimbrough Jr Jason Kimbrough Jr 6'1" | PG Bella Vista Prep | 2022 AZ (Mountain Pointe)
-One of the top on-ball defenders at the event can and will defend his man the length of the court. He has a strong upper body, fast hands and feet plus speed to stay with his man. He is good off the catch to hit the 3 and can get into the lane to use the floater. He is fairly conservative and plays within the flow of the offense. He has a very professional type of attitude and is never too high or low.
Timothy Cochrane Timothy Cochrane 6'5" | SF Phhoenix Prep | 2022 State AZ (Phhoenix Prep)
-He is extremely athletic and seems to be on a spring at times as he explodes off the floor so quickly. He plays the role of a point forward and is a good passer plus is active on the glass using his bounce. He is a natural slasher and gets into the lane but he could be a little more consistent with his deep ball. He can defend multiple positions and has nice upside. He is reportedly transferring from Williams Field to PHH Prep. It is a big loss in my opinion for the Black Hawks.
Mekhi Morris PG 6’0 (Capital Christian-CA)
-A high academic guard has a thick body and is extremely strong. He shows a quick burst into the lane and is a pure PG. He made some great passes in traffic and likes getting into the lane with that build/frame. He is a capable shooter but more of a driver.
Dominique Daniels PG 5’9 (TMG Prep)
-A jet quick top-notch defender is fast in the open court. He likes getting into the lane and can be a streaky shooter off the dribble. He has a strong upper body and very quick lateral quickness. He is a good passer but seems to rather shoot than facilitate. A 2020 player that will be doing a post-grad year at TMG Prep.
