This past weekend, I pulled up to Dream Christian academy to check out the Pangos senior showcase, which provided one last opportunity for unsigned c/o 2020 players to showcase their skills. Here’s a look at some of the standouts from the event.
Matt Brookins 6’6 PF Westminster (Ca) – Brookins puts the Power in forward. A physical post with broad shoulders and a hulking upper frame. Despite his build he is extremely explosive getting off the floor, highlighted by several monster dunks on the day. Brookins who is a 3.4 student has received interest from several national Juco’s.
Jake Conerty 6’5 Mission Viejo (Ca) (featured image) – Kid is the definition of a hooper. Came from the airport straight to the gym, and proceeded to ball. Multi skilled point forward, that showed the ability to handle and facilitate the offense. When he got out in transition, he showed off high level run and jump athleticism. Conerty currently has offers and interest from William Penn, Saint Ambrose, and South Dakota School of Mines.
Alexander Spaight Alexander Spaight 6'5" | PG Canyon Springs | 2020 State NV 6’2 PG Canyon Springs (NV) – Spaight’s displayed terrific combo guard skills, he was able to get to the rim off the dribble, and knocked down shots when left open.
Ty Hightower 6’2 PG La Joya (AZ) – Quick shifty combo guard. Hightower, displayed high level speed and athleticism highlighting his day with a thunderous 2 hand dunk through the lane.
Thomas Mullings 6’5 PF Greenway (AZ) – Mullings generated a buzz with his play. A long rangy, explosive athlete, Mullings was the best defender on the day. He protected the rim with several high level swats, switched and hedged ball screens well, and grabbed out of area rebounds. He offensive buckets consisted of mostly finishes around the rim, however they weren’t layups, Mullings turned several catch and finishes into tomahawk dunks around the rim.
Nahson Harper 6’3 La Joya (AZ) – Harper is a fast combo with an above average handle. He was able to get out in transition, as well as get into the lane in isolation situations, and finish through contact.
Drew Yezbak 6’0 PG Crean Lutheran (CA) – The first thing you will notice about Yezbak is he has a college ready frame. His 6’0 frame is well put together, including definition in his shoulders and biceps. His skill set includes a crafty handle, good understanding of P & R offense and the ability to knock down shots both off the bounce and in catch and shoot situations. Yezbak is a 3.8 student that is currently receiving interest from some D2’s and NAIA schools.
