Here are five players from the class who played in the Top 20 Rising Freshman (Class of 2024) Game that were among those that most impressed me with their Saturday performances (alpha listing):
Seven Bahati 6-4 (Ribet Academy): His presence will help one of Southern California’s top teams in 2019-20 even deeper in the coming season.
He’s got a nice combination of power (strength and vertical explosiveness) and skill, and had the game’s most eye-popping play on the defensive end with his block of an Isaiah Elohim jump shot.
Kory Dodson 6-3 (Riverside Poly High): This multi-skilled and much-improved “wing” will have serious impact as a freshman for the Bears where the head coach is his dad, Yancy Dodson.
Another Dodson – 5-11 Kameron, who played in the Class of 2025-26 game that tipped things off Saturday – is scheduled to join his brother and pops at Riverside Poly in the fall of 2021.
James Evans 6-5 (West Ranch High): Evans, who scored 15 points for the winning (77-64) dark jersey-wearing squad, rivaled Elohim as the most explosiveness finisher Saturday.
He also cranked some high-level outlet passes after big rebounding snatches, too.
Isaiah Elohim 6-4 (Heritage Christian High): Elohim dominated things (with 26 mostly spectacular points) in the same building last September during the Pangos Best of SoCal Fall Showcase.
It was much the same Saturday afternoon while scoring a game-high 23 points for the white jerseys.
With Skyy Clark and Max Allen Max Allen 6'8" | C CA-S having transferred, it shouldn’t take too long for Elohim to carve a significant niche as a freshman for Coach Paul Tait.
Darryl Morris 5-9 (Lancaster): Morris has yet to decide upon which school he’ll be attending for the 2020-21 school year.
But, wherever he lands, he’s sure to demonstrate that same kind of skill, flare and “feel” that was so evident Saturday and in every other setting I’ve watched him over the past couple of years.
