The event included multiple showcase games from some of the top SoCal talent from each class (2021, 2022, 2023, 2024) and even a 2025 game. Here’s some of the top talent that I saw from the first 2023 game.
1. Robert Cooks – Washington Prep
Cooks showed out by being a solid player in transition. He gets out on the break, fills the lane, and makes sure he’s in position to catch a pass. He can shoot well from the three-point line and he has a nice midrange game too. Can handle the ball and create his own shot on the perimeter. He has good body control around the rim; can absorb contact and get himself to the free-throw line.
2. Gavin Moehring – Valencia
Moerhing has good size and the ability to play both in the paint and on the wing. He has good strength in the paint. He takes his time and shows good patience around the rim. He can play with his back to the basket and finish over smaller defenders. He crashes the glass and shows good timing on his rebounding. Can handle the ball a little bit.
3. Aaron Harris – Indian Springs
Harris is a very quick player. He’s small right now, but has room to grow. However, his size isn’t a hindrance at all. He has an explosive first step; he can blow right past his defender and get to the rim with ease. He’s a strong finisher at the rim and can finish over bigger defenders. He finds the seams in the defense and exploits it. Good ballhandler and good three-point shooter.
4. Maurice Wright Maurice Wright 6'2" | CG Santa Clarita Christian | 2023 State CA-S – Paraclete
Wright put on a show when it came to scoring the basketball. He showed off his ability to score in multiple ways. He can shoot from the outside, he can put the ball on the floor and attack the rim, he can shoot off the dribble, he’s going to be a deadly scorer the next couple of years in high school. He also has good court vision and can serve as the team’s primary ball-handler.
