He has 8 talented teams of 8-10 players on each team. (Some were out of town in CA and didn’t attend this week).
And they will be competing for around 3 weeks on Tuesday and Thursday nights. Each team plays once a night and eventually every team will play each team once.
I will review all 8 teams’ standouts this week.
We now look at the Warriors:
Tyrone Washington Tyrone Washington 6'4" | PG AZ Compass Prep | 2021 State #33 Nation AZ (AZ Compass Prep) (Pictured)
-Washington Jr makes the game look so easy. He may be the most skilled guard on the West Coast. He makes every pass in the book and can hit any shot. He can pull-up on a dime and gets good elevation. He gets squared up so quickly and can make a difficult shot look ordinary. He has great length to defend and collects steals and blocks on a regular basis. He has that extra gear that most just don’t have. His confidence is soaring right now and the offers are pouring in from every conference in the country. Don’t be surprised to see him play professionally somewhere after college.
Tru Washington Tru Washington 6'3" | CG AZ Compass Prep | 2023 State #61 Nation AZ (Mountain Pointe)
-The rising soph has improved his game since March. His shot looks more polished and he plays way above the rim with many highlights. He has a strong frame to absorb contact in traffic. The lefty is a good rebounder in his area for a wing and has improved his passing. He can pull-up off the dribble from mid to the 3pt line now and plays hard. He definitely backed up his high ranking in the class.
Washington looked the part in the updated 2023 rankings. He was recently ranked #63 Nationally.Carson Basham Carson Basham 6'10" | C AZ Compass Prep | 2021 State AZ (Sunnyslope)
-The Pepperdine signee showed off his skills why they took him. He hit the deep ball with ease and controlled the glass and swatted shots away. He is a great passer/unselfish teammate and he is easy to play with. His IQ for the game, skill, size and strength will translate in college.
Basham keeps evolving as a player.D’mari Johnson D’mari Johnson 6'6" | PF Phhoenix Prep | 2022 AZ (Buckeye)
-A wide-bodied post player with good length and a motor. He rebounds ferociously and goes to the glass hard. His girth, high effort, toughness and strength will help the Hawks tremendously next season. He has some nice post moves and moves his body around to gain position.
Mekhi Mason Mekhi Mason 6'4" | CG AZ Compass Prep | 2022 State AZ (Chandler)
-The long combo guard can shoot it and make plays for his teammates. He came out of the gates a little slow, and may have been a little rusty like most, but got warmed up as the game went on. The son of a coach understands the game at a high level and look for him to keep improving as the league goes on.
AJ Turner AJ Turner 5'11" | PG Skyline Prep | 2023 State AZ (CDS)
-My first time viewing the quick young guard and came away impressed. He has good speed and he can shoot it from the 3pt line. On a loaded roster for this league, he came off the bench showing nice potential.
Turner shows upside for the Aztecs.
