He has 8 talented teams of 8-10 players on each team. (Some were out of town in CA and didn’t attend this week).
And they will be competing for around 3 weeks on Tuesday and Thursday nights. Each team plays once a night and eventually every team will play each team once.
I will review all 8 teams’ standouts this week.
We now look at the Kings:
Sadraque Nganga Sadraque Nganga 6'9" | PF AZ Compass Prep | 2022 State #37 Nation AZ (AZ Compass Prep)
-The top prospect in his class locally backed up his status. He handles the ball like a guard and he is all of 6’9 and pushing 6’10. His ability to take the ball off the rim and push the pace is second to none. He usually finishes above the rim and has great body control around the rim to finish in traffic. He is a very good passer and gobbles up rebounds, blocks shots and steals the ball at a good rate. His activity is always on display and he is in attack mode most of the game. His 3-ball was working and he can pull-up off the dribble from mid-range. He is a clear top-20 player in the country from his class in my opinion.
Brooks Jones Brooks Jones 6'6" | PF American Leadership Academy-Queen Creek | 2022 State AZ (ALA-QC)
-The long and lean forward has nice athleticism and his jumper is looking more polished. He can shoot it from the 3pt line with consistency and likes the mid-range J. He is very active on the glass and can spring up to corral the rebound. He is a fluid athlete and seems to get a little better every time you see him.
Jones will lead the Patriots into 4A next season.Styles Phipps Styles Phipps 6'1" | PG St Mary's | 2024 State #182 Nation AZ (St. Mary’s)
-I haven’t seen many incoming freshman, but I am attending the Future Elite Summer League this weekend, but Phipps sure looks like he will be one of the better freshman PG’s. He has a tight handle and understands the game like an old vet. He is great off the pick and roll and is a very good catch 3pt shooter. He isn’t afraid to take the ball inside the paint and he can rebound and hit shots from mid-range. He has an inner confidence with no fear at an early age.
Phipps floor game will translate into HS.Mathiang Maker Mathiang Maker 6'7" | SF Dream City Christian International | 2023 State AZ (Dream City Christian)
-The cousin of NBA player Thon Maker and little brother to Top-10 2020 Makur Maker Makur Maker 6'11" | C Hillcrest Prep | 2020 #10 Nation AZ shows promise. He is freaky athletic and can be an explosive finisher in traffic. He rebounds the ball well and he likes facing up from the perimeter. He can tighten his handle a little, but he is a good second jumper and he defends well in space.
The middle brother of the Maker family is one of the better athletes in his class.Isaiah Kai Isaiah Kai 6'2" | PG Campo Verde | 2023 State AZ (Campo Verde)
-My first look at Kai and he showed he knew what he was doing out there. He has a shifty handle and he can shoot it. He already had some big games with Campo on varsity this season and he will look to lead them next season.
