He has 8 talented teams of 8-10 players on each team. (Some were out of town in CA and didn’t attend this week).
And they will be competing for around 3 weeks on Tuesday and Thursday nights. Each team plays once a night and eventually every team will play each team once.
I will review all 8 teams’ standouts this week.
We now look at the Jazz:
Nicholas Riley Nicholas Riley 6'8" | C Phhoenix Prep | 2022 State AZ (Chandler)
-The man in the middle keeps progressing his game. He has leaned out at least 20-25 lbs down to 225. He is moving a little better and is more nimble. He has very good hands to catch passes in traffic and he can go to work in the paint and score with his back to the basket. He is a good two-handed rebounder using his big mitts and is blocking shots at a better rate. He has a nice touch on the FT line and has advanced post moves.
Kieran Carr Kieran Carr 6'4" | CG Phhoenix Prep Post Grad | 2022 State AZ (Arcadia)
-He is slowly becoming one of the better shooters off the catch in 5A. He keeps inching up in height and getting more consistent. His release is one of the fastest in the state. He also is dramatically improving his decision making and passing. He has good length and is starting to fill in his body a little.
Carr will be crucial for a deep playoff run for the Titans.Montez Taylor Montez Taylor 5'10" | PG Williams Field | 2021 State AZ (Williams Field)
-One of the faster guards with the ball in his hands in the AIA has true speed. He looks to set the table and makes good passes into the paints with the correct angles. He also can score it when needed be. He has a quick pull-up from deep and is confident.
Demetrus Johnson II Demetrus Johnson II 6'0" | PG Bella Vista Prep | 2022 State AZ (San Tan Charter)
-The CAA Champs will be heading to the AIA next season in 2A led by Johnson II. He is a pure PG and he showed his handle and the ability to hit shots from the 3pt line. He will be one of the top assist men in the conference and made some impressive passes on Thursday night that led to good shot attempts for his teammates.
Thomas Mullings Thomas Mullings 6'5" | PF Greenway | 2020 State AZ PF 6’5 (Greenway)
-I haven’t viewed Mullings in awhile and he definitely has been improving his game. He has a stronger upper body and has some nice bounce. He can face-up and hit mid-range jumpers and is active to rebound. He can get a lot of points off of sheer hustle on the glass with his motor and sturdy frame.
Quick note:
Kevin Patton Jr Kevin Patton Jr 6'8" | SF Mountain Pointe | 2023 #130 Nation CA-S (Perry)
-Started off the game impressively as he hit a 3 and was moving really well out on the court. He did unfortunately get injured (as he was attempting an athletic dunk). He probably broke his wrist. He sadly just got back to the court after missing his freshman year with an injury. He did recently grow 1-2 inches and hopefully he comes back stronger!
