The rising sophomores in New York City. This class of 2023 is already making hoop fans salivate over what the future holds. Legendary programs Cardinal Hayes, Molloy, St Francis prep, Iona Prep and Christ the King. We will showcase their young players in this segment. Blaise New. 5”8 SO (2023) IONA PREP HS After averaging 26 ppg he was called up for the last 4 games to the varsity. He responded with a 13 point game. He showed he is a fearless tough player. Has a high basketball IQ combined with his court vision and skillset. He can really shoot it from the point guard position. Young player who will gain experience and strength in the coming season as he plays his first full season of varsity ball. Jason Rivera. 6”5. SO (2023) IONA PREP HS A 6”5 combo guard. Has really good court vision. He is a very good defender. Has unlimited range. Needs to add some strength which should comes as he develops. Bangaly Berete. 6”4. SO (2023) IONA PREP HS A late bloomer, his game is still developing. A player that combines his length with a high motor. He is a long rangy rebounder. Good defensively and can score around the rim. Needs to improve his shooting. Spencer Mahoney. 6”5. So (2023) IONA PREP HS A tremendous three-point shooter. Very good skill set. Handles the ball well. Need to add some strength. High academic student who could have Ivy and Patriot league interest, Christian Bliss. 6”2. SO (2023) MOLLOY HS Very savvy player. Old school game. Still growing. Can flat out score. He has passing skills and can really shoot it. An exciting player to watch develop. A player who should garner a lot of attention. Kalik Sharpe. 6”1 SO (2023) MOLLOY HS A tremendous shooter. Can score the ball multiple ways. Plays at a very fast pace. Can get out of control sometime but as he gains experience he will learn how to play his style while playing under control. Josh Pascerelli. 6”2. SO (2023) ST. FRANCIS PREP HS High basketball IQ and court awareness. Can score on all three levels. He needs to improve on his rebounding and defense. SO (2023) CHRIST THE KING HS Right now 6”5 but still growing could get to 6”8. Can really shoot it. Excellent handle which he uses for his lethal pull up. Can score with both hands.
