Here are a few guys who moved up the rankings:
Carson Lamp, Jamestown
Lamp has been in the top tier of players in his class but he took off over the course of the last year, ascending into the top-three. The 6-foot guard doesn’t really have any holes in his game. He shoots it well. He can get into the paint. He’s a solid playmaker. He’s rock-solid defensively and can guard point guards and wings. And he’s smart. He’s just really steady and really sound all-around.
Gunner Swanson, Bismarck
Swanson is perhaps the biggest stock-riser in the last year, going from a fringe top-50 guy to one of the highest rated players in the state. The 6-foot-5 wing from Bismarck is a terrific shooter, a capable secondary playmaker and a multi positional defender. He’s going to be the go-to guy for a Bismarck team that should contend for a state title next year.
Jase Crockett, Northern Cass
Crockett moves into the top-10 after an awesome summer with ECI and subsequent junior season. He’s one of the most dynamic lead guards in the state, making up for great size with strength, explosiveness and skill. He can score from anywhere on the floor or make plays for his teammates, and he’s a bulldog of a defender at the point of attack.
Alex Huber, Edgeley/Kulm/Montpelier
Huber was the leader of an EKM team that qualified for the state tournament last season, averaging nearly 20 points and seven rebounds per game. At 6-foot-4, Huber is a matchup nightmare for the opposition because he’s skilled and more athletic than a lot of true bigs, but strong and active enough to abuse smaller guys. He’s an all-state caliber guy going into next winter.
Garrett Meehl, Oakes
Meehl figures to be one of the top returning lead guards in Class B and gets it done on both ends of the floor. He’s built like a truck and bullies opposing guards routinely. He’s a solid slasher and knocked down better than 36 percent of his 3-pointers while averaging nearly five assists for a good Oakes team.
