Below you will find, listed in alphabetical order by last name, 10 of the top playmakers from MoCo. This is part of a series that will aim to highlight players based on various superlatives.
Note: these superlative lists will not be mutually exclusive. If someone can handle the ball and do something else (i.e. shoot) at a high level, they will be included in both lists.
Rashid Abudu Rashid Abudu 6'0" | CG Magruder | 2021 State MD | Magruder ’21
For those who haven’t seen Abudu play, he’s one of the most exciting and underrated guards in the entire county. Serving mainly as a secondary playmaker for the Colonels, he excels at beating his man off the dribble and consistently making proper reads when the help arrives.
Amare Curtis Amare Curtis 5'9" | PG Coolidge | 2022 State MD | Springbrook ’22
Curtis is one of several returners from the ball-handlers article. Springbrook’s promising lead guard prospect is a reliable playmaker who constantly makes those around him better.
Mike Gray Mike Gray 5'10" | PG Landon | 2022 State MD | Landon ’22
Gray is the type of playmaker that makes an impact on both ends of the floor. Whether he’s stepping up and taking a charge, intercepting a pass, or getting downhill and hitting the open man, he’s usually finding positive ways to affect the game.
Cole Hanin Cole Hanin 5'10" | PG Bullis | 2021 State MD | Bullis ’21
An old-school floor general who gets the job done on both ends, Hanin quite frankly excels at running a team. His playmaking ability transcends beyond just assists and steals. Hanin is a leader of men who acts as an extension of the coaching staff.
Jao Ituka Jao Ituka 6'2" | SG Gaithersburg | 2021 MD | Gaithersburg ’21
Ituka’s gravity on the court is remarkable. When he has the ball, all eyes are usually on him. One of Ituka’s best attributes is turning this into his advantage. He is exceptional at drawing the full attention of his opponents and then finding the open teammate in the best position to make them pay.
Will Margarites Will Margarites 6'0" | PG Wootton | 2021 MD | Wootton ’21
One thing that stands out about Margarites is that he is focused on making the right play. He showcases a solid base set of fundamentals to go along with a high basketball IQ, which shows each time he hits the court.
Mike Myrie Mike Myrie 6'2" | CG Magruder | 2021 NC | Magruder ’21
Myrie is a dynamic playmaker who can change the momentum of a game in the blink of an eye. He easily beats most defenders off the dribble and is always looking to make a positive play. Whether Myrie decides to put someone on a poster, hit a streaking teammate in transition, or hustling back to pin a shot against the glass, he finds a way to make his presence felt on each possession.
Erik Reynolds Erik Reynolds 6'2" | CG Bullis | 2021 State #197 Nation MD | Bullis ’21
Last season’s game against Archbishop Carroll at the KD MLK Showcase was a testament to Reynolds’ ability to take a game by the scruff of its neck. He dominated that game on both ends, making countless defensive plays and generating much of his team’s offense with his ability to break down the defense and consistently create for himself or others.
Bryce Sewell Bryce Sewell 5'9" | PG Georgetown Prep | 2022 State MD | Georgetown Prep ’22
Among the first things you’ll notice about Sewell when watching him play are his paint-getting ability, vision, and playmaking skills. He is becoming a bonafide two-way threat who is steadily improving and likely due for a breakout soon.
Philip Stubin Philip Stubin 5'11" | PG Walter Johnson | 2021 State MD | Walter Johnson ’21
Stubin is a shrewd point guard who builds off his strengths. For example, he’s a terrific shooter who knows how to attack closeouts and exploits defenses once they become unorganized. Stubin is a capable scorer and shot creator for himself, but is also a very good passer who understands how to keep others involved.
