Below you will find, listed in alphabetical order by last name, 10 of the top shooters from MoCo. This is part of a series that will aim to highlight players based on various superlatives.
Note: these superlative lists will not be mutually exclusive. If someone can handle the ball and do something else (i.e. shoot) at a high level, they will be included in both lists.
Roman Cannuscio Roman Cannuscio 6'0" | CG Blair | 2021 MD | Blair ’21
Cannuscio is a left-hander who can light up foes with his perimeter jumper. He’s good for multiple threes a game, and can also mix it up nicely by attacking closeouts and pulling up on a dime from the in-between areas.
Dylan Edwards Dylan Edwards 6'1" | CG St. Andrew's | 2022 MD | St. Andrew’s ’21
One of several capable shooters on a loaded St. Andrew’s squad, Edwards is probably the best of the bunch. He moves well without the ball and is always shot ready upon receipt.
Cole Hanin Cole Hanin 5'10" | PG Bullis | 2021 State MD | Bullis ’21
As you might be able to tell by the fact that he’s been mentioned in all MoCo superlatives thus far, Hanin is a well-rounded player. Shooting is certainly one of his biggest strengths. Hanin shoots it with range and knows how to use that threat to open up the rest of his game.
Kino Lilly Jr. Kino Lilly Jr. 6'0" | CG Landon | 2021 State MD | Landon ’21
Lilly is a deadeye sniper with a quick release and must be guarded tightly once he crosses half court. He is more than capable of creating his shot off the dribble and this is part of the reason why it might be a better option to simply deny him the ball.
Hayden Lunenfeld | Richard Montgomery ’21
RM boasted perhaps the most explosive offense in the county, and Lunenfeld was a huge reason why. The sharpshooting combo-guard, a microwave-type who can score in bunches, is a threat to hit 5 or 6 threes on a given night.
Will Margarites Will Margarites 6'0" | PG Wootton | 2021 MD | Wootton ’21
Margarites showcases a broad all-around skill set that includes the ability to shoot from the perimeter. Wootton’s lead guard not only shoots the ball efficiently from three, but he’s also a terrific foul shooter.
Ryan Prather Jr. Ryan Prather Jr. 6'3" | CG Bishop Walsh | 2021 State MD | Clarksburg ’21
As Clarksburg’s leading scorer, it’s no secret that Prather excels at shooting the ball from long range. It’s one of many things he does well. Whether he’s coming off a screen or spotting up behind the arc, Prather is equally effective and should always be accounted for.
Philip Stubin Philip Stubin 5'11" | PG Walter Johnson | 2021 State MD | Walter Johnson ’21
Walter Johnson’s do-it-all point guard, Stubin’s offensive game is predicated on his ability to light it up from deep. He is great at recognizing when the defense is keying in on him and knows how to exploit it once that happens.
Mohamed Toure Mohamed Toure 6'6" | SF Hun | 2022 State NJ | Sandy Spring ’21
Toure is a confident shooter with size and this makes him a tough cover. At 6-foot-5, he can simply pull up and shoot over the top of most defenders.
Day’sJuan Waters Day’sJuan Waters 6'3" | SF Good Counsel | 2021 State MD | Good Counsel ’21
Perhaps the most talented shot creator on this list, Waters is a nightmare matchup because he’s a knock-down shooter from three. Allowing him to catch the ball is probably not a good idea because he is likely to make you pay as a result.
