COMMITMENTS
The no. 1 player in our 2021 player rankings, Benny Williams Benny Williams 6'8" | SF St. Andrew's | 2021 #35 Nation FL from St. Andrew’s, gave his pledge to Syracuse. At 6-foot-8 with length and athleticism, Williams is the ideal prospect for head coach Jim Boeheim’s system. He’ll bring ability to score from the wing position on offense and the tools and instincts it takes to make the 2-3 zone successful defensively.
Ike CornishFormer Dulaney standout Ike Cornish announced his commitment to head coach Mark Turgeon and the Maryland Terps yesterday. Cornish is a Baltimore native who spent last season at Legacy Early College in South Carolina. Cornish is versatile at 6-foot-6 and will likely be used as an off-ball guard and wing for his hometown Terps. He’s improved steadily since arriving on campus at Legacy and being exposed to stiffer competition, which should fare well as he prepares for life in the Big 10.
Gonzaga’s 2021 guard Malcolm Dread Malcolm Dread 6'3" | SF Gonzaga | 2021 State MD committed to Richmond giving the Spiders a versatile, tough player at 6-foot-3 who can fill many roles. Dread comes from a stout program in Gonzaga who is known for developing prospects to produce at the next level. Malcolm’s older brother, Myles, currently plays for Penn State.
2020 Franklin guard Chandler Johnson Chandler Johnson 6'1" | CG Franklin | 2020 State MD announced his commitment to Young Harris College, a Division II program in Florida. Johnson is a 6-foot combo guard who can score from all three levels. He’ll still need to polish other parts of his game, but I see Johnson becoming a decent college player.
2020 St. Charles guard Tremaine Chesley Tremaine Chesley 6'3" | CG St. Charles | 2020 State MD commits to Cloud Community College (KS). A 6-foot-4 guard who is a lockdown defender and strong finisher around the rim, Chesley should see immediate success and attention at the JuCo level given his toughness and winning background.
2020 Kent County guard Jayshaun Freeman announced his commitment to Chesapeake Community College. Freeman should have no issues adjusting to life in the MD JuCo Conference considering his scoring prowess as a 6-foot guard. Smaller guard tend to see success in this league and garner interest from Division I and Division II programs.
OFFERS
Former Poly guard Brandon Murray Brandon Murray 6'5" | SG IMG Academy | 2021 #220 Nation FL was offered by USF. Murray, who will do a post-grad prep season at IMG for the 2020-21 season should hear from more schools to go along with an already well established list of offers.
2021 Good Counsel guard Bez Mbeng Bez Mbeng 6'3" | CG Good Counsel | 2021 State #190 Nation MD adds another offer to his list with James Madison. Bryant, La Salle, Robert Morris, St. Francis (PA) and Towson are the other programs who have extended offers to the 6-foot-3 guard.
2021 River Hill guard Nick Marshall Nick Marshall 6'4" | CG River Hill | 2021 State MD adds two offers this past week from Ivy League programs in Dartmouth and Rice. It wouldn’t shock me to see some other Ivy League schools get involved with Marshall, a 6-foot-3 guard who can score from all three levels efficiently.
2021 McDonogh wing Jared Billups Jared Billups 6'5" | SF McDonogh | 2021 State MD collected two offers from Lafayette and Navy. Billups is a 6-foot-6 wing who can also be featured as an off-ball guard. His versatility and ability to impact valuable stat categories helped earn offers from other schools such as Brown, Bryant, Bucknell, Loyola (MD), Mount St. Mary’s and UMass-Lowell.
Gilman’s [player_tooltip player_id="777071" first="Christian" last="Winborne"] enjoyed a breakout sophomore campaign2022 Gilman guard Christian Winborne Christian Winborne 6'2" | CG Gilman | 2022 State #199 Nation MD received an offer from UMass. The Minutemen get involved with a skilled 6-foot-2 lead guard who plays with a chip on his shoulder and is now considered a top 150 player in his class nationally. On June 15 schools will officially be able to reach out to 2022 prospects and I expect Winborne’s name to be on the list of many A-10 programs.
