Continue ReadingEarlier in the month we talked about some of Florida’s top-notch student athletes, with an emphasis on student. Today we continue with that theme taking a look at some more future doctors, engineers, and business leaders of America. In addition to being talented athletes these are some guys whose grades will make them eligible for a majority of colleges and universities around the country.
PF Bobby Stewart Bobby Stewart 6'8" | C St. Andrew's | 2021 State FL (2021) 6-8 235 Boca Raton
GPA: 5.2 SAT: 1490 Desired Major: Business/Pre-Law
Stewart will not out jump anyone. He will not out run anyone. What he will do is out smart, out hustle and out play the opposition. An excellent facilitator, Stewart often found teammates cutting to the basket, or kicked it out to shooter when defenses collapsed on him for an assist. With solid footwork, Stewart is always in the right place at the right time, sealing defenders and using fakes to score. As a junior the big man led Boca Raton in points scoring 15 per game, and rebounds grabbing eight per game. In his final season, Stewart looks to show that he can score off the dribble more efficiently. Coaches from high academic Division III all the way to the Ivy leagues have been in contact.
CG Laziz Talipov Laziz Talipov 6'0" | CG Trinity Prep | 2021 State FL 6-1160 (2021) Trinity Prep (Orlando)
GPA 3.6 Desired Major: Aviation/ Business
A quick shifty guard Talipov showed off his dynamic offensive game last winter. With a quick crossover dribble he can get to the rim for an acrobatic lay-up, or run off screens or catch and shoot from behind the 3 -point line. In a December game against Lake Mary Prep Talipov exploded with 31 points. After averaging just under 15 points per game this slick scoring guard should be in for a huge senior season. Body strength is an area that Talipov has been working to improve this off-season.
SG Troy Boynton Troy Boynton 6'4" | CG Baylor School | 2021 State TN 6-5 190(2021) Westminster Academy (Fort Lauderdale)
GPA: 4.3 Desired Major: Undecided
A shooting guard with some size, Boynton can really score the ball in a variety of ways. After averaging 10 points, five assists and five rebounds for 20-9 perennial powerhouse Westminster Academy, he showed college coaches his versatility. With Westminster returning three other players with a considerable amount of Division I talent, Boynton should be primed for a big senior year. Rollins, Stetson, FGCU, and UNF have all offered.
SG Devin Hines Devin Hines 6'4" | CG St. Andrew's | 2021 State FL 6-3 175 (2021) St. Andrews (Boca Raton)
GPA: 3.8
The third scoring option on a stacked state championship St. Andrews team, Hines gave college coaches a little preview of what’s to come. An extremely quick athletic shooting guard, high school coaches have had fits trying to keep him out of the lane. Last year Hines was the third leading scorer at 9.7 PPG. With Yussif Basa-Ama Yussif Basa-Ama 6'9" | PF St. Andrews | 2020 State #264 Nation FL now at Yale, Hines will likely be a focal point of the Scots offense. After recently picking up an offer from Rice, the senior lists getting stronger and more consistent as a 3-point shooter as top priorities for this summer.
SF Ezra McKenna Ezra McKenna 6'6" | SF Choctaw | 2021 State FL 6-6 195 (2021) Choctawhatchee (Fort Walton Beach)
GPA: 4.3 ACT: 27 Desired Major: Engineering/ Physics
In addition to starting on the gridiron as a quarterback, Mckenna is also one of the panhandles top basketball prospects. With long arms at 6-6 the wing is a very tough matchup on the perimeter. Last season, Mckenna averaged 9.9 PPG and 4.3 RPG shooting an impressive 39 percent from beyond the arc. Perimeter defense, and handling the ball against pressure are two areas the wing looks to improve this off-season.
