St. Joseph’s (Metuchen) took home the 2014 Tournament of Champions behind NBA All-Star Karl-Anthony Towns. South Brunswick took home the Central Jersey Group 4 title, while Dunellen was upset in the North Jersey 2 Group 1 final. The conference is over flowing with talented prospects who are ready to make an impact next season. Here are the top secondary scorers in the GMC.
Tristan Jeffries Tristan Jeffries 6'5" | SF St. Thomas Aquinas | 2021 State NJ , 6’5 SF St. Thomas Aquinas 2021
The Trojans lose Third-Team All State Performer Quadry Adams Quadry Adams 6'3" | PG St. Thomas Aquinas | 2020 State #361 Nation NJ , but they still have a big-time guard in Jaquan Harris Jaquan Harris 6'4" | PG St. Thomas Aquinas | 2022 State #164 Nation NJ . Jeffries had to sit out the first month of the season due to transfer rules, but he was still able to create an impact with 11 double-figure scoring games. The 6’5 forward is a slasher who knows how to finish above the rim. Jeffries plays with good instincts on the defensive end as he had four games with at least five steals. Newcomers Josh Rivera and Adam Silas will have a big impact next season, but Jeffries will be St. Thomas Aquinas’ top complimentary scorer beside Harris.
Mehkai Huey, PG Wardlaw-Hartridge 2022
The Rams experienced a big turnaround in 2019-20 as they went 18-7 after only winning five games the season before. Saivon Pressley Saivon Pressley 6'0" | PG Colonia | 2022 State NJ was a big addition to the team, but Huey was a big presence in the backcourt. The lightning quick guard is hard to contain off the bounce and makes plays with the ball in his hands. Huey is also a thief in the backcourt as he had a 12-game streak with five or more steals during the season. Pressley and Huey are a dangerous backcourt duo who should have monster seasons in 2020-21.
Yathin Vemula, 6’0 PG South Brunswick 2022
The Vikings took home the Central Jersey Group 4 behind the combined effort of Justin Carbone Justin Carbone 6'4" | SG South Brunswick | 2020 State NJ and Devin Strickland Devin Strickland SG South Brunswick | 2020 State NJ . While the senior duo combined for 56 points in the game, Vemula was the one who hit the game-winning shot. The sophomore guard plays with composure on the ball and has a mature feel to his game. Vemula has a good handle and can play both guard spots. South Brunswick will sorely miss Strickland and Carbone, but Vemula is ready for a bigger role in the Vikings’ offense.
Maurice Johnson Maurice Johnson 6'4" | SF Colonia | 2021 State NJ , 6’4 SF St. Joseph (Metuchen) 2021
The Falcons had a solid 2019-20 season as they made the GMC semifinals and the Non-Public A South semifinals. Villanova football commit K-Shawn Shulters K-Shawn Shulters 6'3" | SG St. Joe's Metuchen | 2020 State NJ graduates, but Johnson and Amari Campbell Amari Campbell 6'3" | PG St. Joe's Metuchen | 2022 State NJ are ready for a bigger role. The former is a good interior presence as he uses his timing and athleticism to swat shots around the basket. Johnson attacks the basket hard and knows how to finish through contact. Campbell will be the go-to guy for St. Joseph (Metuchen) next season, but Johnson should be his right hand man in 2020-21.
Gian Wagner, 6’0 CG Timothy Christian 2022
Crafty guard Ronnie Burwan Jr. returns for his senior season along with the team’s second leading scorer Wagner. The 6’0 guard is a marksman from behind the arc as he has deep range and a quick release on his shot. Wagner moves exceptionally well off the ball and is an underrated passer. He has a good handle and plays with good instincts on the defensive end. Burwan Jr. and Wagner look to be a lethal duo for Timothy Christian in 2020-21.

Nasir White Nasir White 6'2" | SF Dunellen | 2021 State NJ , 6’2 SG Dunellen 2021
Ruben Reyes, 6’0 PG Colonia 2021
