As a boys and girls high school basketball scout, well over 1000 players are involved, and mistakes will be made. There WILL be errors, and that’s on me. That being said, here are a few mistakes I’ve made and the players that deserve their coverage.
Nate Brown Nate Brown 6'3" | CG Davison | 2021 State MI (2021, SG, Grand Blanc)
This one was tough for me to realize that I’d missed on. The young man deserves better as has been glossed over by media outlets for far too long. I recently wrote an article ranking the class of 2021 in Genesee County. I mixed my notes up and instead of putting Brown in, I ranked a prospect that had transferred out of state. Big error, because Nate Brown Nate Brown 6'3" | CG Davison | 2021 State MI is easily 1 of the best in county. He’s an excellent shooter that is smart and patient with his jumper. Brown is a grinder on both ends that can be counted on to make hustle plays. He’s a next level talent that college coaches should get in on immediately.
Julius Boyd (2023, PG, Brother Rice)
Swing and a miss here. Boyd should be ranked. He’s a talented floor general that just knows how to make plays. Boyd will make a lot of noise in the years to come and should be on the radar for college coaches.
Jason Hunter (2022, PG, Roseville)
Hunter should be ranked, no doubt about it. He will be a 4 year varsity player at Roseville by the time it’s all said and done. Hunter is a quick floor general that can shoot the ball at a high percentage. He’s a player with a high upside that college coaches should pay attention to.
Jude Drake (2022, SG, Jalen Rose Leadership Academy)
We missed Drake, and that’s on us. He’s an athletic player with good start-stop speed and can play at any pace. Drake is a natural scorer at heart, averaging over 20ppg last season. He has a huge upside and college coaches will love watching him play.
Javier Whitaker (2021, PG, Hamtramck)
This was a definite gloss over on our part. Whitaker should be ranked in the class of 2021. He has a knack for finding buckets and being a 3 level scorer. He averaged just over 17 points a game last season. Whitaker is a solid passer that can find shooters and cutters off the dribble.
