Francisco’s Finest: Pangos Best of SoCal Summer Showcase (Class of 2024)

LONG BEACH, CA—I felt the next time I’d be in a gym would be a surreal-like feeling—and that is exactly the case. Dinos Trigonis, who had been running events in Arizona, Utah, and Iowa—unveiled his first event in So-Cal—and it was quite good to say the least. From the playmaking abilities of Darryl Morris and Isaiah Elohim to the “man among boys” in James Evans, the talent was ubiquitous in the Class of 2024 tilt.

Darryl Morris (Palmdale)

2024, PG, 5-foot-9, 145 pounds

Joel’s take: Relentless is the first word that comes to mind when describing Morris. The quick-on-quick point guard blew by every defender who challenged him and his ball handling is as tight as it gets at this stage. Defensively, he slides his feet very well and his active hands were a menace to opposing guards. As he continues to evolve his point guard game (look-ahead passing, game management, etc.) his game will continue to elevate.

Isaiah Elohim (Heritage Christian)

2024, SG, 6-foot-3, 170 pounds

Joel’s take: While Evans was the most physically imposing prospect in the game, Elohim was the best prospect. The high-flying wing-type attacked off the dribble, utilized the jump stop, and scored in a variety of ways. Dunks, finishes with either hand, and a few jump shots sprinkled in described his dominating performance.

Jamari Phillips (Modesto Christian)

2024, PG, 6-foot-1, 155 pounds

Joel’s take: Assertiveness is the first attribute that I’ll toss out there while describing Phillips. The willowy comb-guard has an excellent 1st step and an ability to finish with both hands. He can knock in the 3-ball as well and is an instinctual defender for his age.

Seven Bahati (Ribet Academy)

2024, WF, 6-foot-4, 170 pounds

[caption id="attachment_1007733" align="alignleft" width="150"] Bahati has all the attributes scouts look for in a young prospect. [/caption]

Joel’s take: The long and rangy Bahati has an impressive upside. He was a menace to deal with in transition as he slashed his way to the rim at will while in the half court set his 1st step (good burst) was tough to deal with. He shows good body control while slithering his way to the rim and he hits the boards consistently. Throw in his willingness to defend and he projects well as a two-way player going forward.

James Evans (Santa Clarita)

2024, WF, 6-foot-5, 205 pounds

Joel’s take: Hopefully, there will be a high school season and if there it is, Evans will remind some of a young Stanley Johnson (Toronto Rapters G-League). The burly Evans was a man among boys as he powered his way to the rim with a touch of bully ball, but also showed 19-foot range on his jump shot. He handed out some look-ahead passes and exhibited solid ball skills—not too mention a couple bang-outs as well.
