Below you will find, listed in alphabetical order by last name, 10 of the best interior scorers from Washington D.C. This is part of a series that will aim to highlight players based on various superlatives.
Note: these superlative lists will not be mutually exclusive. If someone can handle the ball and do something else (i.e. shoot) at a high level, they will be included in both lists.
Brock Davis Brock Davis 6'5" | SF Georgetown Day | 2022 State MD | Georgetown Day ’22
At about 6-foot-4, Davis might be considered an undersized forward in many scenarios, but he’s still very effective when scoring in the paint. He’s a relentless finisher who loves getting downhill off the bounce but can also score with his back to the basket.
Christian De La Rosa | EL Haynes ’21
De La Rosa’s back to the basket game is still developing, but he’s extremely active, especially on the offensive glass. He’s a legit lob and putback threat at 6-foot-5.
Nicholas Evans | Gonzaga ’22
A hidden gem in Gonzaga’s program, Evans could be due for a breakout soon. An athletic big who can finish on people, he might earn ample opportunities to make an impact next season.
Amani Hansberry Amani Hansberry 6'7" | C Mount St. Joseph | 2023 State #52 Nation MD | St. Johns ’23
To be blunt, Hansberry is a post technician. His footwork is on point and he can score with either hand around the basket while embracing contact.
John Ford | St. Albans ’21
Ford’s robust frame and high work rate make him an effective inside finisher. The 6-foot-4 forward is easily one of the most reliable interior scores at St. Albans.
Curtis Nixon Curtis Nixon 6'5" | C Maret | 2021 MD | Maret ’21
Nixon has developed nicely in his time at Maret. The 6-foot-5 big man showcases great hands touch around the basket.
George Perkins George Perkins 6'8" | PF Sidwell Friends | 2022 State MD | Sidwell Friends ’22
Perkins is a multi-faceted forward who does many things well, including finish around the basket. This attribute will only improve as he grows into his body and fills out his lanky 6-foot-8 frame.
Chris Russell Chris Russell 6'5" | C Sidwell Friends | 2023 State MD | Sidwell Friends ’23
A long-limbed big man who runs the floor with purpose, many of Russell’s most impressive finishes occur above the rim in transition. His half-court game is progressing though. Russell showcases good footwork and strong hands. His touch is steadily improving as well.
Lucas Siegell Lucas Siegell 6'7" | C St. Albans | 2021 MD | St. Albans ’21
At 6-foot-7, Siegel is a forceful paint presence who is adept at establishing low post position, catching, and finishing in traffic. He’s still adding strength which will certainly be useful moving forward.
Stephaun Walker Stephaun Walker 6'7" | PF Coolidge | 2022 State MD | Coolidge ’22
Walker has been a double-double machine throughout his first two years of high school. He’s got long arms, broad shoulders, great hands, and can finish inside with the best.
