Here are the standouts from SoCal Buzz’s 75-68 victory over Ocean City Elite.
Taeo Thomas, Verbum Dei – The 2021 6-foot-3 guard/forward jumped out to a quick and productive start, scoring 12 first half points to keep SoCal Buzz within striking distance at the break. Thomas knocked down one triple in his game-high tally of 21 points, but did the majority of his offensive damage in the painted area.
Christopher Hardy, El Segundo – Hardy was a consistent three-point shooting threat off the catch in this game. The 6-foot, class of 2021 guard finished with 16 points, including four smooth looking strokes from behind-the-arc.
Zaylen Smith, Orangewood Academy – Smith was slow out of the gate, scoring just two points in the first half, but it was his 10 second half points that helped SoCal Buzz hold on for the victory. Smith, a rising senior, nailed two triples in an impressive second half effort.
Joshua Ragsdale, JSerra – Ragsdale proved to be one of the more smooth all-around scorers in this contest. The class of 2022 guard finished with a team-high 20 points, using his craftiness and creativity to create paint scoring opportunities for himself. Ragsdale is a crafty finisher who also does a nice job of drawing contact to get to the foul line.
