TJ Barnes TJ Barnes 5'9" | PG Grandville | 2021 State MI | 5’10″ PG | East Kentwood
TJ was a key contributor to a talented East Kentwood team and should see his role in their offense expand as he enters his senior season. TJ is a relentless defender who has the quickness to stay in front of his fair share of guards he’s matched up with. TJ’s ability to make opposing guards uncomfortable stands out as he has a knack for exploiting weaknesses. On the offensive end, TJ can consistently knock down perimeter jumpers and is an excellent passer in transition. Competing in the always competitive OK Red, TJ has an opportunity to show he’s one of the areas complete guards.
Keontae Barnes Keontae Barnes 6'1" | CG Muskegon Orchard View | 2021 State MI | 6’1″ CG | Muskegon Orchard View
Ke’Ontae is one of the more underrated scorers in the area, due in large part that his school is often over-shadowed by Muskegon, Mona Shores, and Reeths-Puffer. However, the fact that he plays in the Lakes 8 does not discredit his ability to get a bucket for his team in a variety of ways. Ke’Ontae’s jumper has a natural release, allowing him to get his shot off with relative ease. His first step is quicker than most guards, as he can thrash to the paint and convert. Expect this Division II First-Team All-State guard to round out his game in his senior season and continue to give the Lakeshore fits.
Tommy Gregwer Tommy Gregwer 6'3" | CG Grandville | 2021 State MI | 6’3″ CG | Grandville
Tommy is arguably the purest shooter you’ve never heard of from the west side of the state. That should undoubtedly change this season. His shooting form is efficient and highly effective as he can get the ball out of his hands quicker than most his age. You can tell his shot is a product of max repetition. Another thing he does well is the way he moves without the ball. He can find lanes, setting himself up before the pass begins to come his way. Expect Tommy to be a name heard often this season.
Brendan Schueller Brendan Schueller 5'10" | PG Rockford | 2021 State MI | 5’10 PG | Rockford
Brendan is one of the more defensive-minded point guards in the area, which is evident from his tape as he is constantly making plays on that side of the court for the Rams. He has a unique ability to lurk and step in passing lanes, leading to Rockford getting out on the break. In addition to his defensive acumen, Brendan can knock down the perimeter jumper consistently. Playing in Rockford’s detail-oriented offense, Brendan is the perfect guard to run the show.
Riley Fields Riley Fields 6'1" | PG Barron Collier | 2021 State FL | 5’11″ PG | Wayland
Riley is the prototypical floor general for the Jenison Wildcats, showing the ability to set up his teammates with good looks. His ability to knock down the perimeter jumper was called upon early and often this past season, as needed to be a volume shooter to keep Jenison in games. Expect Riley to be the first name on opposing scouting reports when the Wildcats are on the schedule, due in large part, to his ability to fill it up from multiple spots on the court.
Koby Vanderwoude Koby Vanderwoude 5'11" | PG Caledonia | 2021 State MI | 5’11 PG | Caledonia
Koby is another guard on my list that can fill it up from beyond the arch. While his shot isn’t the quickest, he will certainly make you pay if left alone. Playing in the always brutal OK Red, Koby established himself as a consistent threat and someone who can go up against some of the best guards the area has to offer.
