Many talents are capable of playing multiple positions or can take on an array of assignments on both ends of the floor. These four 2022 players fit the profile on being a versatile player for their respective teams.
Adrian Weills — Oaks Christian
Adrian Weills showed just enough last season for Oaks Christian with his growing potential as an impact player on both sides of the floor.
Weills is a lefty scorer who is expanding on his work as a 3-point shooter. He extends all the way through on the shot because of his set release point and due to where his elbows are as he winds up for a shot attempt. Some of his best work as a shooter has become in quick catch-and-shoot sequences, whether from off screens or cutting runs into open space. He is a magnet to space and knows just what to do when it frees up on the weak side.
Pablo Magallanes — Orangewood Academy
Pablo Magallanes is an emerging role player for Orangewood Academy. The sophomore is heavily active in the painted area on both sides of the floor. He is mobile on offense and provides his teammates with a passing option in the paint if needed. He has also shown to be a capable rebounder for the Spartans, but more work on boxing out in the low post can put him in a better position to win more rebounding duels. This can help him avoid lapses and instead put him at a clear advantage over surrounding players to haul in the rebound. Nonetheless, he puts in the work and effort to be among the team’s leading rebounders.
Caleb Graham — Canyon
Caleb Graham played a limited role with Canyon last season. Still, he provided for multiple promising sequences, especially on the defensive end. He did well to jump into passing lanes to intercept passes or simply fight to win back possession by hauling in loose balls. The effort was certainly on display for the 6’4″ talent.
His junior season will be a pivotal one for him. His scoring production is still a work in progress while isolation defending is where improvements are needed as well. Needless to say, he has what it takes to orchestrate a balanced and productive season in what could be a dark horse campaign.
Dominic Parker — Villa Park
Dominic Parker is one talent who is due for a breakout season with Villa Park. He is active on both sides of the floor but also fosters a developing, quality shot. He is quick to get into position from behind the 3-point line; he follows through very well on his shot. As mentioned, he is developing much of his overall offensive game, but his outside shooting is one to watch. With several senior scorers like Riley Schroeder moving on, look for Parker to be a prime candidate to receive more touches and overall offensive responsibilities next season.
